Trump, political leaders pay tribute to passing of Queen Elizabeth II; ‘May God bless the Queen’

News of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at 96 years old on Thursday, traveled fast with political leaders reacting with heartfelt tributes to the beloved British monarch who represented her people for over seven decades, the longest-tenured reign by a royal in the long and storied history the country.

Family members began arriving at Balmoral Castle in Scotland as the ailing queen’s health took a turn for the worse. She passed peacefully into the afterlife as her son, Charles III became the first king of England since George VI died in 1952, being succeeded by his young daughter Elizabeth who was 25 years old when her reign began.

“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” King Charles said. “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

Her passing was announced on Twitter by the Royal Family, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”

“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the brief message said.

One of those who paid his respects to the dearly departed was former President Donald J. Trump who was warmly welcomed by Queen Elizabeth during a visit to the U.K in 2019.

“Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief. Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries…,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“…around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women. Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!…,” the former POTUS added.

In a third Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “…Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the great people of the United Kingdom as you honor her most meaningful life and exceptional service to the people. May God bless the Queen, may she reign forever in our hearts, and may God hold her and Prince Philip in abiding care.”

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She defined an era, “President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden wrote in a statement. “In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her. An enduring admiration for Queen Elizabeth II united people across the Commonwealth. The seven decades of her history-making reign bore witness to an age of unprecedented human advancement and the forward march of human dignity.”

“Today, Americans join the people of the United Kingdom in mourning the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Over her seven decades on the throne, Her Majesty was a pillar of leadership in the global arena and a devoted friend of freedom,” tweeted Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

“For 70 long years, from the aftermath of World War II well into the 21st century, across 15 different Prime Ministers, through great triumphs and great challenges, the Queen’s steady leadership safeguarded the land she loved,” Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement.

“Despite spending nearly three quarters of a century as one of the most famous and admired individuals on the planet, the Queen made sure her reign was never really about herself — not her fame, not her feelings, not her personal wants or needs,” he added. “She guided venerable institutions through modern times using timeless virtues like duty, dignity, and sacrifice. She offered our contemporary world a living master class it needed badly.”

Also paying their respects were Barack and Michelle Obama,

“Like so many of you, Michelle and I are grateful to have witnessed Her Majesty’s dedicated leadership, and we are awed by her legacy of tireless, dignified public service. Our thoughts are with her family and the people of the United Kingdom at this difficult time,” the two wrote on Twitter.

“Queen Elizabeth ably led England through dark moments with her confidence in her people and her vision for a brighter tomorrow. Our world benefitted from her steady resolve, and we are grateful for her decades of service as sovereign,” former President George W. Bush said in a statement.

“Few individuals in the history of humanity have led their people with such steadiness and grace as Queen Elizabeth. My condolences to everyone mourning her passing today, and the end of an era,” said former secretary of state and failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

There will never be another Queen Elizabeth and the world will continue to mourn her passing over the coming days.
