A Virginia country club has issued an apology after a 911-themed menu was brought to light on social media ahead of this weekend’s commemoration of the terrorist attacks that saw the loss of 2,977 people in 2001.
Some of the offending menu items for the “Patriot Day 2022 Seafood Sunday” menu included “Flight 93 Redirect,” “First Responder Flatbread,” and “Pentagon Pie.”
The menu has since been taken offline, but screengrabs live forever. As a result, George White, the manager at the Clubhouse at Aquia Harbour. issued an apology Tuesday on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“I apologize for those I offended with the 9/11 seafood Sunday post,” the post read. “My intention was to bring attention to that horrific day 21 years ago,” White continued. “To honor those who lost so much as well as those who gave everything that day. We will have a new theme tomorrow.”

“This is so awful for anyone who lost someone on 9/11 or people who watched it happen right in front of them,” said a user named Kathleen Schmidt. “I’m one of those people.”
“Attempting to profit off 9/11 is gross in itself, but this themed menu is on another level,” concurred another. “Crispy oven-baked First Responder Flatbread…Someone really approved that idea.”
“I’m still not over this. Like how does this happen? No one said, hold up maybe this isn’t a good idea?” another wondered.

The 911-themed menu has since been changed to an NFL theme for the league’s upcoming 2022-23 opening weekend. Some of the newly-named items include, “Hot Defense Crab Dip,” “Champs Chowder,” “Fumble Flounder,” and a “Touch Down-tini.”
Aquia Harbour has not responded to requests by multiple news outlets for comment.
