Dem secretary of state falsely says GOP will ‘strip Americans of the right to vote’ if they win midterms

Democrats are resorting to fear and loathing as they seek to play on the emotions of the gullible haters of the party’s base to motivate them to turn out in what will be the most important off-year election in the nation’s history.

While some like President Joe Biden and Florida gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Crist pander to the worst instincts of their voters with angry, dehumanizing rhetoric about Trump supporters, others are sounding the alarm that “democracy” will come to an end if Republicans are able to capitalize on voter anger over budget-crushing inflation to take control of Congress along with state and local governments.

One cynical Democrat who is pushing the panic buttons of voters is Colorado’s secretary of state Jena Griswold who in an interview with The Guardian that was published on Sunday, said that the stakes have never been higher and urged attention to be paid to down ballot races, especially when it comes to secretaries of state like herself who stands to be swept out of office if the “red wave” materializes as many have predicted.

According to Griswold, “What we can expect from the extreme Republicans running across this country is to undermine free and fair elections for the American people, strip Americans of the right to vote, refuse to address security breaches and, unfortunately, be more beholden to Mar-a-Lago than the American people.”

“For us, we are trying to save democracy,” the 37-year-old leftist said.

“Having failed to overturn the 2020 vote, Trump and his loyalists are now strategically targeting positions that will play a critical role in supervising the next presidential election, turning many of the 27 secretary of state contests this year into expensive, partisan showdowns,” according to The Guardian. “If elected, Griswold fears that these Trump-backed candidates would weaponize their posts, either by sowing doubts about the results of an election their party loses – or by trying to subvert it outright.”

What Griswold – and other Democrats – really fear is that Republican secretaries of state will do their jobs by focusing on election integrity and not party politics of the type that are undermining public confidence in free and fair elections after the 2020 debacle which millions of Americans still have legitimate questions about but are denounced as conspiracy theorists and worse if they dare to ask them.

Twitter users reacted to Griswold’s fearmongering.

“The fight to try to take Americans’ freedoms, it won’t be over after the election – it won’t,” Griswold told The Guardian. “This is a long-term fight.”
