One year after her son’s death in the suicide bombing at Kabul’s airport, a Gold Star mother recalled her meeting with President Joe Biden who, instead of offering his sincerest condolences as the commander in chief, chose to talk about his dead son Beau.
Shana Chappell of Norco, Calif., whose son, 20-year-old Marine Corps Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui was one of 13 service members who paid for Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan with their lives when a suicide bomber detonated at Hamid Karzai International Airport, spoke with conservative website Townhall about what happened when Biden met with the grieving family members during the dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base last August.
“He interrupted me and started talking about his son. About his son,” she said. And I remember looking at him and going, ‘What are you doing?’ And then I said something along the line, ‘This isn’t about your son. This is about my son.’
I told him he had no business talking about his son. And then I started again talking about my son, and then he said, ‘I just wanted to let you know how I feel,’ At that point, now I’m even more angry because he said he brought up his son because he just wanted to let me know how he feels,” she recalled. “I probably sounded like I didn’t care that he lost a kid and I didn’t mean for it to sound that way. It’s — his son died of cancer, so they had time to be there, spend time with him, tell him goodbye.”
“My son died because of the very man that I was talking to,” she said.
Adding to the pain and suffering endured by Shana and her family was the second tragedy of her other son, 28-year-old Dakota Halverson, taking his own life at his brother’s memorial less than two weeks short of the one-year anniversary of his younger sibling’s death.

Despite her second devastating loss coming two days before she was to talk with Townhall, Shana wanted to go forward with the interview because “she wanted people to know that what President Biden oversaw and caused in Afghanistan is still devastating one year later,” according to the outlet.
“The ripple effect! I lost two sons in less than one year, both of them in the month of August! My son Dakota was an amazing son. Like all of my kids, he had a heart of Gold. He hit some rough patches in his life and his life wasn’t always easy but he managed to pull through and was slowly getting his life back on track,” Shana wrote in an Instagram post after the loss of her second son.” I was so wrapped up in my own grief that I couldn’t see all the signs that were there! I’m not gonna make this a political post but this is the ripple effect! Now my kids have lost another brother.”
Shana isn’t the only Gold Star parent to take exception to the president bringing up Beau Biden, a son who unlike his corrupt, drug-addled sexual degenerate brother Hunter was being groomed for a future White House run. Mark Schmitz, whose son Marine Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz was also killed in the blast at Kabul’s airport told his story to Fox News host Sean Hannity last year.
“Well, initially I wasn’t going to meet with him but then I felt like I owed it to my son to at least have some words with him about how I felt,” he said. “It didn’t go well. He talked a bit more about his own son than he did my son and it, that didn’t sit well with me.”

Biden also was criticized for repeatedly looking at his watch as the bodies of the fallen were offloaded from the military plane in Dover which was perceived by some as an extremely disrespectful gesture to those whose lives were lost as an indirect result of his catastrophic foreign policy debacle in Afghanistan.

“I’ve run into people who’ve never even heard about what happened in Kabul and I explain to them well that’s because this administration is in fear if too many people find out, the truth about Kabul, it could make people maybe rise up,” Chappell said.
“And they don’t want that, they have people where they want them right now, fearful, doing what they want them to do, it’s actually disgusting,” she added, “I’m disgusted with our country right now.”
