NBC legal analyst claims Trump pushed civil unrest in ‘veiled threat’ to Garland about ‘angry’ Americans

NBC News legal analyst Barbara McQuade accused former President Trump and his attorneys of sending a “veiled threat” to Attorney General Merrick Garland following the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago because he dared to say Americans are “angry” over it.

McQuade, who is a professor at the University of Michigan Law School, made the outrageous accusation Tuesday on MSNBC while giving her reaction to a court filing from Trump’s legal team concerning the raid. It requests a third party to review the evidence and quotes a message allegedly sent to a Department of Justice official earlier in August.

MSNBC host Jose Diaz-Balart read the quote: “President Trump wants the attorney general to know he has been hearing from people all over the country about the raid. If there was one word to describe their mood, it is ‘angry.’ The heat is building up. The pressure is building up. Whatever I can do to take the heat down, to bring the pressure down, just let us know.”

He then asked the legal analyst how she would take that message if she were working in the Department of Justice. She immediately called the language a “veiled threat” against Garland. The left has run wild with that particular talking point on social media.

“I would see it as a veiled threat that they’re suggesting that if you take action against me, there could be civil unrest. And boy, once we start negotiating with terrorists, we’re in deep trouble. So that would strike me as a very improper statement,” she disingenuously asserted. “It is not, ‘I want to resolve this, I want to help,’ it is, ‘beware, there are people out there who may engage in violence if you act against me, so I think it’s incredibly inappropriate.”

New York Times correspondent and CNN analyst Maggie Haberman predictably went down that same delusional path, calling Trump’s language about “angry” supporters an “implicit threat” during Monday’s airing of Anderson Cooper 360.

Spinning out the conspiracy theory that echoes the Jan. 6 allegations and the Russian collusion hoax, McQuade claimed the message is some kind of secret ‘warning’ to Garland about going to ‘war’ with Trump.

That message, according to McQuade, goes something like, “If you go to war with me, I’ve got an army that’s going to rise up, so just beware what you’re doing.”

This is the same leftist who criticized Trump’s lawyer Lindsey Halligan on Sunday over a claim she made this week about the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago search warrant affidavit, according to Newsweek.

During a Friday appearance on “Greg Kelly Reports” on Newsmax, Halligan said that there was a “lack of transparency” by authorities when it comes to the Trump affidavit.

“We want to review the affidavit for ourselves. They are very selective in terms of what they want out there and we definitely want to know what they’re claiming they have as evidence. So, their withholding of information is essentially controlling the flow of information and that is the first step to tyranny,” she proclaimed.

McQuade bristled over that statement and clapped back against Halligan’s remarks on Twitter, tweeting that “search warrant affidavits are sealed in every case until after charges are filed. This claim of mistreatment is pure disinformation.”

McQuade stepped down from her position as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan in 2017 after serving for seven years. She left her position amid Trump’s request for the resignation of 46 U.S. attorneys during his presidency. Since that time, she has been on a tear predicting Trump’s downfall at every turn. She has been consistently and impressively wrong.
