The concept of the slippery slope is often dismissed by progressives striving to enact their woke agenda. However, the promotion of “safe spaces” has escalated to outright “widespread” segregation and discrimination that even some liberals recognize as “dangerous.”
The University of California Berkeley has long been a haven of activists and radicals, and their reputation now seemingly includes a new generation of racial discrimination. The accusations against the publicly funded university came after the alleged rules for guests for their off-campus co-op, the “Person of Color Theme House” were posted that specifically stated, “White guests are not allowed in common spaces.”
“House members and rules should always be respected by all guests. Make sure your guests understand our house values and uphold the theme of the house, as you are responsible for their behavior,” the supposed rules reasonably set forth before growing more extreme. “Many POC members moved here to avoid white violence and presence, so respect their decision of avoidance if you bring white guests.”

“Guests are allowed in common spaces, but please be mindful if there are house members in the room beforehand. White guests are not allowed in common spaces,” the rules specifically note after stating, “Always announce guests in the Guest Chat if they will be in common spaces with you and if they are white.”
The radical policies wouldn’t be complete without branching into the left preferred realm of intersectionality, so of course, rules were also aimed at protecting “Queer…and Indigenous” residents from “homophobic or racist parents” who might come to visit.
“Queer, Black, and Indigenous members should not have to avoid common spaces because of homophobic or racist parents/family members,” the rules laid out.
These extreme guidelines soured even environmentalist and Democratic supporter David Seaborg, 73, who graduated from the university in 1974 before going on to found the World Rainforest Fund.
“Things were different then,” he told the Daily Mail. “There wasn’t the anti-white stuff you have now.”
“It is widespread and has a lot of support among students in the liberal community. Not just in Berkeley but also nationwide,” he added of the “dangerous” mindsets being endorsed throughout the country.
As the university was met with backlash over the policies of the co-op that houses up to 56 students off campus, Adam Ratliff, Assistant Director of Media Relations and Critical Communications told the NY Post the POC house is not under the school’s control.
“To be clear, it is not campus operated,” he explained. “This property is operated by a private landlord, and it is not the role of the campus to comment on what private landlords are ‘allowed’ to do.”
The blown-off concern was followed up with an assertion that university housing programs “have no such policies like the one alleged,” and Ratliff’s further claim that they “do not discriminate on the basis of race, consistent with UC and campus policy” were countered by the experience of a mixed-race student.
Claiming that they had lived in the POC house, The College Fix reported on the Reddit posts of a student who alleged that their, “presence as a light skinned person was not received well” and they were called slurs as well.
“[I] was not allowed to let my dad enter the house because he’s white,” the student added.
Again, the higher-ups dismissed concerns as Stephen Ross, cooperative experience manager for the Berkeley Student Cooperative, told The College Fix “neither the BSC nor the POC house has an official policy” prohibiting white people from common spaces.
“White people can and do live in POC house, but the focus for POC house is providing a safe and supportive living environment for people of color,” he went on. “While the members who choose to live in POC house cannot avoid every racist experience, living in POC house gives the members who live there a safe space to process their experiences and feel supported in their living environment.”
Despite UC Berkeley representatives’ statements, this is far from the first time the university has taken heat for promoting racist ideas as in March, a video resurfaced of a 2007 lecture from Professor Zeus Leonardo where he stated: “And so, that’s why I’m coming up with this recent understanding that to abolish whiteness is to abolish white people, and that’s very uncomfortable perhaps but it asks about our definition of what racism, what racial justice might mean.”

Leonardo is still listed as part of the UC Berkeley School of Education and this kind of discrimination is not limited to higher education. More recently, Minneapolis Public Schools agreed to a new contract that would see to it that white teachers with seniority would be laid off ahead of newer minority faculty members to preserve diversity in the school system if such excessing were needed.
As famed James Golden, radio host and longtime producer for the late Rush Limbaugh, had said in reaction, “Obviously by signing onto this contract the state has now endorsed state-sponsored racial discrimination.”
