Finnish PM is urged to take drug test after video of her at wild party leaks

Finland Prime Minister Sanna Marin created a scandal after a video emerged showing her cavorting and dancing with celebrity influencers at a wild party, resulting in calls for her to take a drug test.

The wild partying with friends appeared to take place in a private apartment as they danced for a video taken by a phone camera, according to the Daily Mail.

When Finnish MP Mikko Kärnä, from Marin’s coalition partner Centre Party, got a gander at the partying by the glamorous 36-year-old prime minister, she took to Twitter, urging Marin to take a voluntary drug test.

The prime minister denied using drugs and stated at a press conference Thursday that she had “nothing to conceal or hide.”

“I haven’t used any drugs, so it’s not a problem to take a drug test, but I also think it’s quite special that something like this is required,” she told reporters at Kuopio’s Rissala airport.

“I didn’t see any evidence that anything was used anywhere,” Marin contended.

She also defended herself, telling reporters that “I have danced, sung, celebrated, done legal things.” Marin claimed that she had not been drinking heavily.

According to ABC News, the prime minister slammed the person responsible for leaking the video, which she pointed out was from a couple of weeks ago.

“I trusted that since the videos are private and published at a private event, they would not be published,” Marin stated. “It feels bad that they have been published.”

Marin told journalists, “I have a family life, I have a work life and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age.”

“I am going to be exactly the same person as I have been until now and I hope that it will be accepted,” she said.

She was asked if the video is a matter for a police investigation and responded that she still didn’t know if anything illegal had happened and that it would “hardly be a police matter.”

The partying evidently took place in two separate flats with approximately 20 people in attendance according to Marin. The group also visited two bars.

The video apparently was taken from the Instagram stories of a private account. Partying with Marin were Finnish singer Alma and her sister Anna, rapper Petri Nygard, TV host Tinni Wikstrom, photographer and influencer Janita Autio, radio host Karoliina Tuominen, as well as MPs from her own Social Democratic Party. It is comprised of exactly what it sounds like… socialists.

The video has been criticized in Finland. Many consider the prime minister’s behavior inappropriate for a world leader especially when her country is seeking to join NATO and is facing off with Russia.

Marin has been branded “the coolest politician in the world” by the German tabloid Bild. Others call her careless.

This isn’t the first time that Marin has been nailed for partying. A few months ago, she was forced to apologize for going out clubbing until 4 am after being exposed to someone with COVID.

Following the nightclub incident, she was criticized by Sweden’s largest morning newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

Columnist Saga Cavalli asserted that Marin “seems to love surrounding herself with celebrities and likes to pose on social media,” and described it as “celebrity ass licking’.”

Marin became one of the youngest world leaders and Finland’s youngest ever when she became prime minister at the age of 34 in 2019.
