Joe Who? Biden media blackout in effect on one-year anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan

President Joe Biden’s handlers and the compliant media have erected a protective force field around the flailing leader as they work 24/7 to rehab his image and change the narrative from one of shameful failure to greatness in the runup to the critical midterm elections that will determine whether his party retains its iron-fisted grip on political power, and nowhere is it more evident than in coverage of Afghanistan.

With Biden’s long period of being out of the public eye dragging on, not only did the geriatric gaffe machine not personally comment on the one-year anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan to the terrorist-coddling Taliban, but the media airbrushed him out of reporting on what was the worst American foreign policy catastrophe since the end of the Vietnam War.

Monday may have been the one-year mark of the fall of Kabul after a lightning-fast conquest of the war-torn country that was the site of the nation’s longest military conflict in history, but you would never know it from the coverage, something that didn’t go unnoticed.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro took to Twitter on Tuesday to point out that stories on Afghanistan from major media outlets not only glossed over Biden’s culpability in the humiliating surrender to the Taliban but didn’t even bother mentioning his name.

“On the anniversary of the surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban for no reason other than Joe Biden’s insipid vanity — the media are now covering the fallout. Without mentioning Joe Biden AT ALL. The word Biden appears zero times in this story,” Shapiro wrote, linking to an NPR story.

In another tweet, Shapiro linked to a New York Times report that also neglected to mention Biden.

“The word Biden appears zero times in this story from the NYT,” he wrote.

Shapiro wasn’t the only one who noticed the mysterious disappearance of Biden from media reports on the Afghanistan debacle, MRC NewsBusters’ research director Scott Whitlock posted a video to Twitter of an ABC report detailing the human misery in Afghanistan after the U.S. tucked tail and ran with a notable exception.

“ABC somehow never says the words ‘Joe Biden’ in segment on how Afghanistan is now more ‘isolated, sadder and hungrier than ever,'” he wrote.

In his piece on NewsBusters, Whitlock did give credit where credit was due.

“Over on NBC’s Today, Savannah Guthrie at least managed to name the President in office during the debacle: ‘We turn now to a new U.S. intelligence report on Al Qaeda’s presence in power in Afghanistan. It comes nearly one year after President Biden declared the end of America’s longest war,'” he wrote.

Whitlock added, “On CBS Mornings, Biden’s name came up, barely. Here’s Imtiaz Tyab: ‘One year into the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, and the nation also remains in the grips of what the U.N. considers the world’s worst humanitarian crisis after the Biden administration froze billions in assets from the central bank and foreign donors pulled vast amounts of funding that once made up three quarters of the nation’s annual budget.'”

One story that didn’t get much play over the weekend was the Taliban’s crushing of women’s rights protests in which militant Islamist thugs fired into the air with automatic weapons to disperse demonstrators, some of whom were reportedly beaten.

As BizPac Review reported:

Chanting “Justice! Justice! We’re fed up with ignorance,” outside of the Education Ministry, the women called for “Bread, work and freedom” with many defying the oppressive government by not wearing burkas as they took to the streets in an act of protest that has become all too rare since Biden and his team of military and foreign policy geniuses ran up the white flag of surrender, abandoning both Afghanis and Americans to a cruel fate.

According to reporting from Agence France-Presse, “Some female protesters who took refuge in nearby shops were chased and beaten by Taliban fighters with their rifle butts.”

It is said that the greatest lies are the lies of omission and the media’s removal of Biden from most coverage of the horrific aftermath of his historic failure is par for the course from the same propagandists who have spent weeks insisting that the worst inflation in four decades and a recession by the longstanding definition is instead, a monumental success for a resurgent Biden who remains in a tightly controlled environment.
