Fearmongering reporter asks Pelosi if she worries for her safety amid ‘civil war’ chatter

Republicans are taking the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate seriously, with many saying it will unify the party moving forward. Others are using rhetoric surrounding the conversation to fearmonger for Democrats, perhaps in the hopes of scoring them some sympathy votes at the ballot box.

For example, on Wednesday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., held a press conference with the other members of her recent Indo-Pacific Region trip to discuss what happened and issues surrounding the United States’ relationship with Taiwan. During the question and answer portion of the presser, she was questioned by a reporter about the recent FBI action. Pelosi chided the reporter for asking an off-topic question but gave some general and vague reassurances.

“Madam Speaker, thank you. Do you think the Department of Justice or the FBI should come forward and offer some kind of – either explanation or at least context for the raid of Mar-a-Lago? You may not typically do, but given the unrest?” the reporter asked.

“I think we made it really clear that this conference – this meeting was about this CODEL. I’ll be having another press conference the next day or so, about legislation and about whatever else is going on. With all due respect to your question on this subject,” she responded.

Another reporter decided the question was too important to pass up, and asked the speaker if chatter about a “civil war” following the raid on Mar-a-Lago was a security concern for her. The reporter even claimed that the threats are “on par with January 6th.”

“I know security was important on your trip, but just in terms of security here at home – just in light of the action at the former president’s home – is there any concern right now among you or Members about your own security given some of the chatter – this talk about a civil war? Some say it’s on par with January 6th,” she asked.

However, Pelosi still wasn’t having it.

“Well I, with all due respect, I place your category in the same – your question in that same category. But we did have a briefing that was long planned right – before any of the actions of this week – was long planned for security for Members, all Members of Congress,” she replied.
