NYPD arrests members of ‘rabid’ pro-abortion mob after confrontation at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral

Several pro-abortion protesters were arrested by police in New York City following an incident where they harassed parishioners outside of a Catholic church on Saturday, haranguing worshippers who were menaced, subjected to vulgarities and accused of being Nazis.

The NYPD confirmed to Fox News that five people were taken into custody at The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in lower Manhattan where an angry mob of leftists converged on the church in yet another of the incidents that have targeted Christian houses of worship nationwide since the historic Supreme Court ruling overturning abortion rights landmark Roe v. Wade.

Police did not provide the network with details on those who were arrested, including their ages and what they were charged with.

In video footage of the confrontation outside of the cathedral that was provided to the Daily Mail, a group of protesters are shown trying to gain entry into the building with one masked individual shouting, “tell that Nazi to come out,” as the barbarians massed outside of the gates.

“Come the f**k outside,’ echoed another as the first protester screamed again: ‘You killing Nazis? You killing Nazis?'” The outlet reported on what could have become a very dangerous situation if not for the arrival of the police.

“Catholics typically gather at the Cathedral on the first Saturday of every month to protest abortion. They march from the church to the nearby Planned Parenthood location where they hold their demonstration,” the Daily Mail reported. “This Saturday, the group prayed the rosary outside the clinic while pro-choice protesters shouted at them.”

In a tweet from the The New York Young Republicans Club, the group said that its Catholic caucus, “protected parishioners of Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral from an onslaught of violent, rabid leftists. We will always stand in defense of liberty, especially when radicals seek to silence opposing views.”

Following the police intervention, numerous far-left social media accounts sought to portray the mob in a sympathetic light and to accuse the NYPD of brutality, lies that were exposed by intrepid independent media reporter Andy Ngo who has covered the violence of the militant left at great peril to his own personal safety.

“#Antifa accounts are spreading deceptively edited video about the pro-abortion protest targeting the Basilica of St. Patrick in Manhattan. In shortened video, they show an officer shoving a person back. Full video shows the rioter had hit the officer first,” he wrote as he posted clips showing the confrontation with police in full context including one troublemaker striking an officer.

“The NYYRC Catholic Caucus denounces the violence once again directed at parishioners of Old St. Patrick’s this morning, another effort to terrorize Catholics, and we applaud any members of our group who attended their rosary rally,” the caucus said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Open witness to Christ in New York City is a dangerous act; history will look fondly on those who stood nonetheless. Growing forces in this city want to stop anyone from standing for Christ. If so, we will kneel for him.”
