Kidnapped girl, 12, chews herself out of bondage in Alabama home, leads cops to gruesome discovery

America keeps getting sicker as a young girl escaped captivity and led law enforcement officials in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to a gruesome discovery.

José Paulino Pascual-Reyes, 37, is facing kidnapping charges and multiple counts of capital murder in connection to the bodies found at his home.

Local authorities were called to a county road south of Dadeville, Alabama after a 12-year-old girl was spotted wandering down County Road 34 in the early hours of Monday. She was picked up by a conscientious motorist who immediately called 911, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation shortly thereafter.

A rapid investigation ensued involving local, state and federal officials, which ultimately led to the arrest of Pascual-Reyes in Auburn and the discovery of two decomposing bodies at his home in Dadeville.

The 37-year-old man is charged with first-degree kidnapping, three counts of capital murder and two counts of abuse of a corpse in connection with the bodies.

Evidently, the 12-year-old victim chewed her way out of her restraints and then escaped, WSFA reported.

“It’s a fluid investigation,” Sheriff Jimmy Abbett told reporters. “Things are changing, and I don’t want to jeopardize the identification of our juvenile.”

The remains of the other two bodies found have been turned over to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification

“I would say she’s a hero,” Abbett said. “It’s one of those things we won’t get into until later. We gave her medical attention. She is safe now. We want to keep her that way.”

Pascual-Reyes had lived at the home since February, Abbett said.

“It’s horrendous to have a crime scene of this nature,” the sheriff told reporters Tuesday.

The 12-year-old was apparently drugged while she was held captive, and court filings indicate she was tied to a bedpost for at least a week, during which time she was forced to imbibe alcohol to keep her subdued. Somehow, she managed to escape. Authorities could not say whether or not her kidnaper was familiar to her.

The sheriff said investigators have worked “tirelessly” during the investigation.

The assisting agencies include the Tallapoosa County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI, the State Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security, the Dadeville Police Department, the Dadeville Fire Department, the Camp Hill Police Department, the Alexander City Police Department, the Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Human Resources and the Child Advocacy Center.

Pascual-Reyes remains in the Tallapoosa County Jail pending a bond hearing.
