AOC’s pep-talk for special people resurfaces: ‘People who change what people think are drag queens’

Like her fellow leftists, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a special place in her heart for drag queens and a video clip of her inspirational pep talk to a group of men in colorful women’s garb is drawing attention on social media.

In resurfaced video which is from a 2020 appearance on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” the New York City Democrat credited drag queens for historically being among those who have driven societal changes and shifting public opinion, suggesting that a brick-thrower at the 1969 Stonewall riots where homosexuals rose up and battled police was a heroic if not historic figure.

The socialist diva also praised the flamboyant group of fellow guests for their patriotism, gushing with pride over the tiny slice of a minuscule but noisy demographic that is the proverbial tail that wags the dog in America today.

“The people who change what people think are artists and drag queens and let’s not forget who threw that first brick at Stonewall,” AOC said, in remarks that are the epitome of irony today as the grooming aspects of drag queen story hours and child-friendly performances where male strippers posing as females shake their booties in front of young children have drawn more attention along with public outrage.

“You know, that is what led to us passing the Equality Act in the house this term,” she said. “Marriage equality, it starts with you, I mean, you’re patriots.”

“You are, you are, you are patriots,” Ocasio-Cortez told the group. “And I am so proud of you all, I’m so proud to live in this country with you and with your mother and with all of us as family.”

As could be expected, the video drew a strong reaction from Twitter users.

Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the only high-profile Democrat to appear on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to pander for votes from the party’s very important constituency, so has Speaker Nancy Pelosi, most recently last month.

“My honor to be here to say to all of you, how proud we all are of you,” Pelosi said after she made her grand entrance. “Thank you for the joy and beauty you bring to the world.”

“Your freedom of expression of yourselves in drag is what America is all about,” Madame Speaker added.

The reason what AOC’s salute to drag queens and the Stonewall riots was dredged up this weekend is unclear.
