Merrick Garland foreshadows Justice Dept. unprecedented prosecution of Trump for role in J6

Attorney General Merrick Garland declined to rule out a Justice Department prosecution of former President Donald J. Trump, a move that would not only be unprecedented but politically explosive in a country that has been torn apart by the Biden administration’s weaponization of the federal government against its political adversaries.

Garland’s remarks coincide with a Washington Post report that federal prosecutors are questioning witnesses before a grand jury about Trump’s role in the so-called “insurrection” with his remarks during an interview with Lester Holt of NBC News that aired on Tuesday night.

“You said in no uncertain terms the other day that no one is above the law,” Holt asked the nation’s top law enforcement official. “That said, the indictment of a former president, or perhaps candidate for president, would arguably tear the country apart. Is that your concern as you make your decision down the road here, do you have to think about things like that?”

“Look, we pursue justice without fear or favor,” Garland responded. “We intend to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally responsible for the events surrounding Jan. 6, for any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another, accountable. That’s what we do, we don’t pay any attention to other issues with respect to that.”

Holt followed up, “So if Donald Trump were to become a candidate for president again, that would not change your schedule or how you move forward or don’t move forward?”

Garland responded, “I’ll say again that we will hold accountable anyone who is criminally responsible for attempting to interfere with the transfer, legitimate, lawful transfer of power, from one administration to the next.”

The attorney general may be playing his cards close to the vest given the ramifications of the Biden administration bringing charges against the top opposition party candidate in a presidential election – not the least of which would be doing away with any pretense of democracy and entering full banana republic territory – but The Washington Post wasn’t as circumspect.

In its Tuesday bombshell on the Justice Department’s grand jury, the paper relied on the usual collection of anonymous sources to suggest that criminal charges against Trump are practically imminent.

According to the WaPo, “There are two principal tracks of the investigation that could ultimately lead to additional scrutiny of Trump, two people familiar with the situation said, also speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.”

“The first centers on seditious conspiracy and conspiracy to obstruct a government proceeding, the type of charges already filed against individuals who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 and on two leaders of far-right groups, Stewart Rhodes and Henry ‘Enrique’ Tarrio, who did not breach the Capitol but were allegedly involved in planning the day’s events,” the paper reported.

“The second involves potential fraud associated with the false-electors scheme or with pressure Trump and his allies allegedly put on the Justice Department and others to falsely claim that the election was rigged and votes were fraudulently cast,” both tracks are consistent with the Liz Cheney-Nancy Pelosi select committee’s Soviet-style show trial, one that could soon expand to draw in other enemies of the regime including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

With Trump once again holding rallies and giving speeches, he is looking very much like a serious candidate for 2024. The Biden regime, the remnants of the Bush-McCain-Romney establishment GOP and the Deep State bureaucratic machine will use any means necessary to take him out before the decision is left up to the American people.
