‘Beautiful inside and out’: Trump speaks fondly of ex-wife Ivana ahead of her funeral

Former President Donald Trump spoke fondly of his ex-wife Ivana Trump, who died at 73 last Thursday from apparent blunt impact injuries sustained in a home accident.

Long-time New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams related a call she received from the 45th president on Tuesday in which he affectionately remembered his first wife and the mother of Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric Trump.

“I’m just thinking how well you knew Ivana. You knew her very well. You knew her from the first. From the very beginning. From when I first met her,” Trump said, according to Adams. “She was beautiful. She was special. I know you and she liked each other from the earliest day,” he said.

He continued, “She was outstanding. Beautiful inside and out. We began all of it, our lives together, with such a great relationship.”

The pair were married from 1977 until 1990 and their divorce was widely sensationalized in the press.

Trump added that Ivana, who was born in what is now the Czech Republic before emigrating to Canada, was “Beautiful, yes, but she was also a hard worker.”

“No matter how rough things were or how badly they looked she never fell down. She went from communism to our lives together. She took nothing for granted,” the former president recalled.

In recent years, the pair described their marriage amicably, with Ivana saying in 2016 of her ex-husband, “I think he would be a great president.”

In a message posted to his social media platform on Thursday, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City. She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all so proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!” the post read.

Their children followed with their own joint post in remembrance of their mother.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ivana Trump. Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend,” they said.

“Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren.”

Later in the phone call, Adams asked Trump if he thought the nation was about to be lost under the current administration.

Replied Trump, “It’s horrible. We’ve never been at such a low point. That trip to Saudi Arabia? We have more oil than they have. This man in Washington is setting us all back. Setting everybody back.”

Making an obvious allusion to a presidential run in 2024, Trump told Adams, “Look, let’s us just manage to get through this awful painful experience. And after this . . . just remember . . . just remember what I’m telling you . . . 78 is not old.”

Trump plans to attend Ivana’s funeral to be held Wednesday at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Manhattan.
