US Olympic silver medalist attacked by pipe-wielding homeless man in LA

Olympic silver medalist Kim Glass posted a video of her terrifying injuries to Instagram after being attacked by a vagrant in Los Angeles. It’s yet another glimpse of how colorful life is in Democrat-controlled cities with progressive DAs.

The 37-year-old Glass is best known as the star of the US women’s volleyball team, and is also a Sports Illustrated model and fitness trainer. She shared a video showing cuts to her nose and a completely swollen right eye after the random and unprovoked assault, which happened on Saturday.

Glass said that she had noticed her attacker’s strange and erratic behavior, before he ran up to her and threw something at her face. Nevertheless, Glass says that she was quickly stitched up, and that she’ll be okay with no permanent injuries.

In her post, Glass recounted what happened, and said she was leaving lunch with her friends on Saturday when the horrifying attack occurred. She said the “homeless man ran up, he had something in his hand and he was on the other side of a car on the street.” She also said the man was looking at her “with some pretty hateful eyes.”

It was at this point that Glass turned to a friend to remark that she thought there was something wrong with the man, thinking he might hit a car.

“Before I knew it, a big metal bolt, like a pipe, hit me…it happened so fast,” she said. “He literally flung it from the street, so he was not even close to me at all. It took me down and out, and they got him and held him down until the cops came. The ambulance came, and right now it looks like my vision will be okay, and I got really great stitching from the doctor. I have just amazing friends and family around me supporting me, and that’s been the best part.”

“Also, like, guys just be safe out there,” Glass added, “because you keep your head in this little…off your phones, I mean mine wasn’t, but, it still…I wasn’t ready for it. And, uh, there’s a lot of mentally ill people on the streets right now and…you shouldn’t have to be fearful when you walk, but it’s true. And so, you guys just be safe, okay?”

Glass’ attack comes as a wave of crime continues to embroil Los Angeles during the reign of its woke district Attorney, George Gascon, whose liberal and permissive approach to crime-fighting has been a disaster. This has prompted a recall effort, patterned after a similar initiative that ousted San Francisco’s DA Chesa Boudin earlier this year.

The recall campaign has received over 700,000 signatures, well above the 500,000 signatures needed. That means that, more likely than not, the recall question will appear on the November ballot. That’s a long way away, however, and in the meantime there’s little question that George Gascon will be able to do a great deal of damage.

And even if Gascon is ousted, what’s to prevent a fellow-traveler from replacing him? The key takeaway from Kim Glass’ terrifying experience is a simple one: stay away from Los Angeles.
