On the last day of “Pride month” a Spider-Man writer revealed that Marvel Comics has a “fearlessly femme” gay Spider-Man ready to swing into action in the coming months.
“Something I realized immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can’t – and shouldn’t – represent ALL gay men,” Steve Foxe wrote on Twitter. “No single character can.”
“His fearlessly femme identity is central to who he is, but it’s not the STORY— which you can experience yourself in September!” he exclaimed.
Although the gay comic book writer hid his post about the new illustrated gay super-person so only his Twitter followers could see it, a screenshot was reposted which includes photos of the character’s new skin-revealing attire.
Wait… wasn’t you jus so proud of the gay Spider-Man @steve_foxe ?
Do you member… I member…
Why would you hide your post? Aren’t you and @Marvel / @Disney taking #Pride in your totally new and original character anymore?
Be loud and proud! Oh wait… It’s July now. pic.twitter.com/Luwy0UpIKe

Web-Weaver will apparently be “A not-so-mild mannered fashion designer at Van Dyne gets spider-powers and shows us a very different kind of Spider-Slayer.” and is scheduled to launch in the September release of the Edge of the Spider-Verse #5 comic book.

The new character was met with diverse reactions although even “a young gay lad” rejected the new character.
***WARNING: Language***
I’m a young gay lad and yes of course I’m all for diversity and representation but wtf is this ….. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jesus Christ haha 🤣🤣🤣🤣 #Spiderman #webweaver pic.twitter.com/2yjBapMjbW

Not saying that there can’t be a gay Spiderman but did they have to make him any more into a stereotype of a gay person pic.twitter.com/XWQZfqo1Mi

I respect what they’re doing………but making the first gay Spiderman Effeminite and Camp could be really tone deaf depending on how he’s written…I would have rather had a Peter who acts like the Peter we already know but he’s in love with another guy

Only time will tell if the new move will attract more readers or push them away.
In 2017, the vice president of sales at Marvel said forced woke content was being rejected by readers.
“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity,” Davide Gabriel said at the time. “That’s what we heard. I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales. Anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up.”
“Discussed candidly by some of the retailers at the summit, we heard that some were not happy with the false abandonment of the core Marvel heroes. To ward off the inevitable accusations of racism and sexism, Gabriel underscored that Marvel remains committed to its diverse new characters,” he continued.
“Let me be clear, our new heroes are not going anywhere!” Gabriel clarified in a statement. “We are proud and excited to keep introducing unique characters that reflect new voices and new experiences into the Marvel Universe and pair them with our iconic heroes.”
