Pasquale “Pat” Cipollone, White House counsel to former President Donald Trump, has been subpoenaed by the January 6 Committee which claims new evidence says he “repeatedly raised legal and other concerns” on the day of the Capitol riot, as well as days before.
After the disaster that was Cassidy Hutchinson’s hearsay-laden testimony, key parts of which were immediately disputed by people far closer to the situation than she, the January 6 Committee has to be desperate for something that is going to stick. In a statement Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Representative Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., claimed they have information that indicates Cipollone voiced legal concerns about Trump’s behavior on the days preceding and the day of January 6. It is because of this they are asking the former White House counsel to go “on the record” with some of the supposed concerns he had.
“The Select Committee’s investigation has revealed evidence that Mr. Cipollone repeatedly raised legal and other concerns about President Trump’s activities on January 6th and in the days that preceded. While the Select Committee appreciates Mr. Cipollone’s earlier informal engagement with our investigation, the committee needs to hear from him on the record, as other former White House counsels have done in other congressional investigations,” the statement reads. “Any concerns Mr. Cipollone has about the institutional prerogatives of the office he previously held are clearly outweighed by the need for his testimony.”
It is not clear whether Cipollone will comply with the subpoena, as it was issued to circumvent his lack of voluntary cooperation outside of his initial interview with the committee.
Cheney took to Twitter to encourage Cipollone to testify, saying. “[a]ny concerns he has about the institutional interests of his prior office are outweighed by the need for his testimony.”
As we heard yesterday, WH counsel Pat Cippollone had significant concerns re. Trump’s Jan 6 activities. It’s time for Mr. Cippollone to testify on the record. Any concerns he has about the institutional interests of his prior office are outweighed by the need for his testimony.

Yeah well until they allow cross examination I won’t believe anything they have to say, so this is a waste of time.

Why, knowing he can easily run out the clock in court (until Speaker McCarthy takes over and starts “investigating” Hunter Biden, Benghazi, and 1,000 other things)? Maybe giving Cipollone cover (I had no choice – I was subpoenaed!)?

Garland will protect him. just as he’s done for Meadows and all the coup leaders.
There’s no reason for him not to voluntarily testify, unless he has some criminal liability.— Putin’s GOP, overturning American democracy (@we_are_toast) June 30, 2022
It’s over. House panel lost all credibility by putting a perjurer on the stand. pic.twitter.com/9KZ81pDl1e
