A video posted to Twitter by Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin shows the harsh, graphic reality of human smuggling across the southern border and its most deadly effects.
The video contains clips of dashcam and bodycam footage from the Texas Department of Safety troopers who pulled over a truck containing several immigrants who were reportedly being smuggled into the country.
As police closed in on the vehicle, a number of people can be seen in the footage hopping out and running away. Most go to the right into what appears to be open, grassy land leading to some trees.
But one unfortunate soul made the panicked decision to run across a lane of traffic to make his escape and was fatally struck by a vehicle.

According to Melugin, the alleged smuggler has been charged with “human smuggling causing death.”
