Becerra laughs off legality of HHS using federal dollars to transport women for abortions: ‘You’re recording so I wont tell you’ what else we’re doing

The Biden administration has reacted to the Supreme Court’s overturn of the landmark abortion ruling Roe v. Wade with total disdain for the nation’s highest court as an institution and from all early indications, the regime has no intention of abiding by the decision.

In a revealing video clip that is drawing attention on social media, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra told an NBC News reporter that the agency is looking into using taxpayer money to transport women seeking abortions to states where the procedure will be legal, a remarkable statement that demonstrates the disregard that President Joe Biden’s apparatchiks have for the law.

During a weekend appearance at the Aspen Ideas Festival, a gathering of the political and cultural elite held deep within Colorado’s Rocky Mountains in a town that is a playground for the rich and famous, Becerra was speaking with NBC News correspondent Kate Snow who was covering the event when he let it slip that the regime has no intention of honoring the court’s decision.

“What are you doing concretely in response to the court’s decision to try to help women?” Snow asked the radical former California attorney general.

“Well, we’re working with centers like Planned Parenthood so we are restoring funding for Title X family planning services,” Becerra responded. “We are working with supporters on the ground to make sure that we are providing services to women where we can.”

“We are looking into everything including assisting in transportation, something that HHS doesn’t typically do…” he said.

Snow asked, “Can you do that legally?”

The government official flashed a devious grin, saying “Talk to me later” as the audience laughed.

The reporter followed up, “That’s a big question, right?”

Becerra snarkily responded, “I always tell my team at HHS, uh, if you’ve done your homework then you have no right to do mild so we’re gonna be aggressive and go all the way and I would tell you if… you’re recording so I won’t tell you,” delighting the crowd as he broke into an ear-to-ear smile.

“This is all on the record, Mr. Secretary,” Snow said.

“We are looking at every option and among those is transportation,” Becerra said.

Snow asked, “Say that again?”

“We are looking at every option and among those is transportation,” he replied.

“Transporting women to other states?” Snow pressed on, drawing a nod from the government official.

Snow took to Twitter, writing, “HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra @SecBecerra told me the Biden Administration is considering transportation services to take women from states now outlawing abortion to states that allow it. I asked “is that legal?” He basically answered they will find out.”

The federal government is barred from using taxpayer funds for abortion under the Hyde Amendment which “Prohibits the expenditure for any abortion of funds authorized or appropriated by federal law or funds in any trust fund to which funds are authorized or appropriated by federal law .”

“Prohibits the use of federal funds for any health benefits coverage that includes abortion. (Currently, federal funds cannot be used for abortion services, and plans receiving federal funds must keep them segregated from any funds for abortion services.)” reads the text. “Excludes from such prohibitions an abortion if: (1) the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest; or (2) the woman suffers from a physical disorder, injury, or illness, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself, that would place her in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, as certified by a physician.”

Biden’s Pentagon has also announced that it intends to flout the SCOTUS ruling.

“Nothing is more important to me or to this Department than the health and well-being of our Service members, the civilian workforce and DOD families,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement. “I am committed to taking care of our people and ensuring the readiness and resilience of our Force.”

“The Department is examining this decision closely and evaluating our policies to ensure we continue to provide seamless access to reproductive health care as permitted by federal law,” Austin added.

As has been repeatedly seen during the last 18 months, the administration isn’t going to let something as inconvenient as the law stand in its way.
