Big emergency? House Dems read poetry, sing God Bless America on Capitol steps, run off for break after ruling

Reeling from the thought of no longer being able to dispose of babies as easily as they do their soiled toilet paper, House Democrats were clearly flummoxed about how to express their anger and outrage at the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade on Friday.

Hence, they took to Capitol Hill with poetry readings and songs.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) spoke at a press conference where she expressed her frustration and dissent through poetic protest.

“I am personally overwhelmed by this decision,” Pelosi said before announcing that she was going to read a poem by Israeli poet Ein Li Eretz Acheret.

“I have no other country even though my land is burning. Only a word in Hebrew penetrates my veins, my soul, with an aching body and with a hungry heart. Here is my home. I will not be silent for my country has changed her face, I shall not give up on her, I shall remind her and sing into her ears, until she opens her eyes,” Pelosi said theatrically.

“Clearly, we hoped the Supreme Court would open its eyes,” she told viewers with melodramatic somber as she slowly placed the printed poem in a folder.

Even former Democratic presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson rolled her eyes at the reading.

“I can’t even,” Williamson wrote on Twitter.

“Before you get mad about this think about how YOU phone it in on the Friday before a two-week vacation,” Daily Beast podcast host Andy Levy tweeted.

But wait, there was even more bizarre behavior.

House Democrats gathered on the steps of the Capitol Building and broke out singing “God Bless America.” The irony to hear them simultaneously ask for the Almighty’s blessing over the country while protesting having less ability to break the pesky sixth commandment, “Thou shalt not kill,” was truly something to behold.

“The libs are not okay,” Greg Price wrote on Twitter.

Democrats united on social media to rip the perplexing response to the ruling that gives the power over abortions back to the people and their elected state representatives.

***WARNING: Language***

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Williamson said in response. “The Democrats have never looked so clueless.”

MSNBC weeknight host Chris Hayes chimed in to condemn the left too.

“I get that they are at a loss,” he wrote on social media. “But there’s an unbearable pathos in watching ever more fervent performances of institutional faith as the institutions themselves fail ever more violently.”
