Texas and Missouri first states to END abortion following historic SCOTUS ruling: ‘Monumental day’

It’s official: Just hours after the Supreme Court issued its explosive decision to overturn its 1973 decision on Roe v. Wade, Missouri and Texas have effectively banned abortion.

Calling Friday “a monumental day,” Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced the news in a “BREAKING” tweet.

“Following the SCOTUS ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, Missouri has just become the first in the country to effectively end abortion with our AG opinion signed moments ago,” Schmitt tweeted. “This is a monumental day for the sanctity of life.”

Not to be shown up by the Show Me State, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton tweeted, “SCOTUS just overruled Roe & Casey, ending one of the most morally & legally corrupt eras in US history. Praise the Lord.”

“Abortion is now illegal in Texas,” he declared. “And today I’m closing my office–and making it an annual holiday–as a memorial to the 70 million lives lost bc of abortion.”

In a more formal statement, Paxton said, “Roe v. Wade and its successor case Planned Parenthood v. Casey have absolutely no basis in the U.S. Constitution. Nevertheless, for half a century, Americans have had to live under these illegitimate, illegal, and unconstitutional dictates of a partisan, willful Supreme Court.”

“No more,” he stated. “Today, the question of abortion returns to the states. And in Texas, that question has already been answered: abortion is illegal here.”

“I look forward to defending the pro-life laws of Texas and the lives of all unborn children moving forward,” he said.

Paxton went on to urge Texans and Americans in general not to “forget the extraordinary violence that Roe and Casey unleashed on our nation. Because of those decisions, almost 70 million babies have been killed in the womb. And so, today at noon, I am closing all my offices as a memorial to these babies.”

“Our hearts and prayers go out to all of them,” the Lone Star State’s AG stated. “Never again should something like this happen in America.”

As The New York Times reports, both Texas and Missouri–along with 11 other states–had abortion “trigger laws” in place ahead of the anticipated landmark court decision.

“These statutes were implemented in anticipation of Friday’s ruling and are written to automatically go into effect following the overturning of Roe v. Wade,” The Times explained. “Some laws are expected to take effect almost immediately, while others are written to take effect about a month after the ruling.”

In Missouri, for example, the “Right to Life of the Unborn Child Act” states “no abortion shall be performed or induced upon a woman, except in cases of medical emergency. Any person who knowingly performs or induces an abortion of an unborn child in violation of this subsection shall be guilty of a class B felony, as well as subject to suspension or revocation of his or her professional license by his or her professional licensing board.”

In Texas, the “Human Life Protection Act of 2021” will be enacted, meaning abortion in the state will only be permitted when it will prevent serious injury or death to the mother.

Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and Wyoming put in place similar laws detailing what will and will not be allowed, including whether or not exceptions will be made and potential penalties for violating them once they take effect.
