Gun control bill gets mixed reaction, leftists argue it’s not enough: ‘Told you this time is different’

As ten Republican senators betrayed their base by pushing forward gun control legislation on Sunday, advocates cheered the move but it was predictably not enough, and now they want more.

Some advocates called the deal “historic” while others lambasted it as “pathetically weak.” Those in the latter group believe that it doesn’t go nearly far enough and since they have been given an inch on gun control, they now want a mile.

The bipartisan abridgment of the Second Amendment was reached early Sunday morning. Sens. Chris Murphy (D-CT), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and John Cornyn (R-TX) led the way down the slippery slope.

The new legislation includes more funding for red flag laws, funding for mental health and school safety, closing the so-called “boyfriend loophole” which prohibits those convicted of domestic abuse from buying a gun, the birth of a subjective federal law against gun trafficking, and enhanced background checks on gun purchasers under 21.

Former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot in the head and gravely injured by a mass shooter in 2011, wrote on Twitter, “Eleven years ago, a bullet changed my life forever. Six of my constituents were killed, several more injured. And Congress has failed to get anything done since. But today, our country takes an important step forward with the announcement of a bipartisan framework on gun safety. This bipartisan agreement on gun safety could be the first time in 30 years that Congress takes major action on gun safety.”

Those who want guns banned in America salivated over the new legislation.

“Today a bipartisan group of 20 Senators (10 D and 10 R) is announcing a breakthrough agreement on gun violence – the first in 30 years. Told you this time is different,” tweeted David Hogg, the co-founder of March for Our Lives.

“This is a historic, new beginning that breaks the stranglehold of the gun industry … This framework is laudable, but it is not the end of our effort. We will not rest until this framework becomes satisfactory legislation and President Biden signs that legislation into law,” Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence President Kris Brown said in a statement.

Others believe it doesn’t go far enough in stripping Americans of their right to bear arms.

Conservatives are infuriated over the legislation and the ten Republicans who collaborated with Democrats on it are being shredded for their perceived betrayal. Many want them primaried for it.

Conservative host Jesse Kelly was blunt about those who will decide if you are sane enough to own a weapon via red flag laws: “These are the people ‘red flag laws’ would empower to decide if you’re sane enough to have guns.”

Conservative pundit Buck Sexton let loose as well, tweeting: “They want us to have faith in how the apparatus will use psychiatry for Red Flag Laws after they forced us to wear masks for 2 years like idiots and fired people from their jobs for refusing a shot that did nothing to stop the spread-”

And anger over the Republicans holding hands with Democrats to gut constitutional rights was swift and fierce:

  1.     I didn’t want to believe it, but it is now obvious that Democrats invite the tragedies to further their goal of gun confiscation and refuse any action to prevent those tragedies. In 2013, the Grassley-Cruz bill targeted felons, fugitives and those with serious mental illness to prosecute them if they illegally tried to buy guns. Even though the majority of the Senate approved it, the Democrats filibustered it and the bill died. Now we have the Uvalde massacre and Chuck Schumer refused to advance a bi-partisan bill that would have outlined the “Best Practices” that have been identified (after Sandy Hook) to implement in all schools that would prevent these needless killings; such as one controlled access point only, armed Resource Officers, or allow (not mandate) teachers who are trained to have concealed carry. Biden also says he is against these common sense solutions. Any one of the measures would have prevented the tragedy at Uvalde, in fact, they have prevented three mass casualty events since 2018 in schools that have implemented some or all of these “Best Practices”. Just a few days ago, in Gadsden Alabama, another school shooting was avoided because all the doors were locked and an armed Resource officer shot and killed the potential shooter. Of course, none of the media reported that story. Tell everyone. It is disgusting and abhorrent that the Democrats refuse such simple solutions in favor of advancing their anti-constitutional ideology whose ultimate goal is gun confiscation. “Red flag” laws are equally unconstitutional in that they allow no due process, are administered arbitrarily and can be used in retaliation or politically.

Their new gun control bill making its way through the house is called the “potect the children act”. Obviously, their defund the police and “no bail” policies show they don’t care about the dozens children that are killed in drive by shootings in our cities every year. The don’t care about children that become sex slaves as they are trafficked across our open border by the cartels. They are willing to abort babies up to and after the moment of birth. That’s not abortion, it’s murder. This is pure evil and anyone who can’t see that is blind and complicit.

    1. And why do the Democrats steadfastly oppose the commonsense solutions that you outlined? I can see only one reason. If those measures were put into place, they would actually work. The Democrats WANT as many school shootings as possible because they can use them to promote their anti-gun agenda. I’m convinced of it.

      1. There’s really no other conclusion that can be made. Just like they use any incident possible to stoke their false narrative that “white supremacy is the greatest threat to the homeland” when, in fact, there are now more instances of black supremacists violence. Some examples:

        – Not being reported, but on Monday 5/16/22 a black man, Jeremy Smith opened fire on seven people in a Dallas Hair Salon.
\– In 2016 Micah Johnson killed five and wounded 9 Dallas police officers in a Black Supremacist attack
          – In November of 2021 black supremacist Darrell Brooks mowed down men, women and children at a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin by driving over them in his SUV. He killed 6 and wounded and maimed 60; mostly women and children.
         – In April of this year, Frank James, a black supremacist, who posted “kill whitey” rants on his facebook page, shot 29 people on a N.Y. subway.

No matter what Joe Brandon and the Democrats tell you, the statistical truth is that blacks (who comprise just 13% of the population) commit 90% of the interrracial felonies in America.

    2. Very well said, and I’m convinced that gun confiscation is the ultimate objective of these soft on crime prosecutors that George Soros bankrolls. They want to whip people up into a frenzy over guns so they can disarm the citizenry. Then they can impose whatever evil they want with little to no push back. It’s the only thing that makes any of what they’re doing make sense.
