Badass police sniper takes out man holding gun and kidnapped baby: ‘We’ve only got one shot at this!’

Body camera footage shows police in a standoff with a man who was holding a baby hostage and brandishing a gun, which ended in a sniper taking out the kidnapper.

The incident that started out in St. George, Utah, occurred in February of this year and ended near Beaver Dam in Arizona after an intense chase.

After warning the suspect to put the baby down, a police sniper shot and killed the 30-year-old suspect, Oscar Alcantara, who still had the infant in his arms.

The video was just released following a public records request by television station KUTV.

Washington City police were looking for Alcantara in connection with a separate incident where a weapon was used when he committed this crime.

The suspect was tracked to a church in the Bloomington area of St. George where a vehicle was pulled over. When police arrived, a woman jumped out of the car and ran to them, saying that Alcantara was still in the vehicle with her child and that he had a gun.

The kidnapper jumped into the driver’s seat of the car and raced off with the woman’s child still strapped in its child seat inside the car.

A wild chase ensured through St. George and into the desert of southwestern Washington County. It ended just across the Arizona border.

In the footage, police can reportedly be seen clearing people away from the area where the shooting took place.

Officers tried to persuade Alcantara to hand over the baby during the standoff.

“Put the child down on the ground, we will not pursue you!” an officer yelled at Alcantara.

A few minutes later, the suspect exited the car with the baby in his arms. He ran off into the brush off Highway 91 while pointing the gun at the baby.

“Oscar stop! We don’t want to hurt you!” an officer shouted.

He did not comply and crouched down behind vegetation as the police negotiated with him. Meanwhile, snipers were moved into position. Audio reportedly reveals that officers asserted they could see a gun being pointed at them.

“The gun is pointed right at us! Gun pointed at us!” an officer shouted.

A few minutes after that, a police sniper had Alcantara in his sights.

“We’ve only got one shot at this!” an officer can be heard stating before the sniper fired, killing Alcantara while he was still holding the child.

Officers immediately ran over to see if the infant was okay.

“I got child, I got child, come here baby,” an officer with the St. George police department was heard saying on a body camera.

The baby was not hurt in the incident and was transported to safety.

The Mohave County Attorney’s Office is still reviewing the entire incident, per protocol, following the shooting. They are reportedly reviewing hours of video, interrogating witnesses, and interviewing dozens of officers who were involved in the altercation.

  2. I wonder what person of questionable reasoning power will complain that this was excessive force, OR which would say it was “unnecessarily” putting the baby’s life in danger. It is time that we quit defending the perpetrators and, when in a situation where a life is in danger, deal with them as they appear to be dealing with their victim. It is NOT the gun that is the problem, it is the decline in consequences for law breakers and the culture which treats law breakers as victims. Yes, there are some who are forced to violate the law because of some of the restrictions heaped upon the police, restrictions which make justice impossible. for these, it is time we look closely at the circumstances and change the rules where they protect the criminal (not the innocent person accused) rather than the true victim.

  3. We need to put more in the ground in many cases. Start at the top. Best solution all the way around. This according to Willie!

  5. Do we refer to the perp as the “alleged” kidnapper for the legalese sensitive folks? These clowns caught on video aren’t “alleged” they are guilty as sin. Just a pet peeve of mine. In this case a hole through his skull has the final word.

  6. Bingo!!
That’s what USA needs .professionally trained snippers to eliminate the
The bad people wether it’s criminals or bad corrupt politicians that harm the American people .

    1. The Supreme Court justices are violently accosted out side their own homes .
Threatened , their lives in danger ,yet that’s ok !
The demorats cheer it on and the police turn a blind eye.
Schumer pushes publicly to attack, confront the justices in front of their homes . This POS said that .
All this IS AGAINST THE LAW .
Yet ,republicans are cuffed ,shackled ,dragged to jail ,strip searched,
Finger printed ,thrown in jail .
An assignation attempt was heard to be to harm a Supreme Court justice .
Yet nothing happens to demorats . No charges ,no one arrested .
No wonder the USA , True Americans are pissed .
This is truely the tip of the ice burg .

  7. In some jurisdictions, they would shoot the baby and register the kidnapper to vote.

  8. This “incident” should take no more than 10 minutes for the DA to review. Stamp the file “good shoot”, move on. Bad actions earn grave consequences.

  9. The police department should be made an example of, on how to handle a lethal situation. The crazed ( assuming illegal) individual would have killed the child, so why provide home time or space. Great shot officer “one shot, one kill”. Sniper training.

  10. Most law enforcement people are not vicious, race haters or cowards. A few give all a bad name which fuels the media.

  11. When more “consequences of bad actions”…..like this happen…..then maybe it will ultimately stop or at least be severely reduced.
