As if we needed any more confirmation that Joe Biden’s America is a broken, dysfunctional mess that needs to be put out of its misery, there comes news that a prodigious caravan of well-organized “migrants” and “refugees” is amassing in southern Mexico.

It goes without saying that their destination is the United States, and there’s little doubt that once they get there, they’ll be released into the country and become de facto “citizens”—a distinction that means less and less with each passing year.

According to the New York Post, various news sources are reporting anywhere from 9,500 to 11,000 people are already participating in the caravan, with 15,000 estimated to join it when all is said and done.

They are reporting that a 10,000-strong migrant caravan just crossed into Mexico from Guatemala on the way to the U.S. That's an invasion.

The group set off from Tapachula in southern Mexico, which is near the Guatemalan border, and seems to largely comprise Central Americans, Venezuelans, and Cubans. Its members are reportedly demanding that Biden repeal Title 42, the COVID-era measure that allows the government to turn away asylum-seekers over health concerns. The health policy has been a useful tool for border guards, who have invoked the measure to summarily expel almost 2 million illegals without adjudicating asylum claims.

Historically, once the so-called refugees have made it to the asylum hearings, they’re virtually guaranteed release into the country by the left-leaning courts and bureaucracies. Title 42 has empowered border patrol to expel them immediately, circumventing the bureaucracy entirely, and this is why President Biden has sufficiently roused himself from his usual torpor to try to rescind the measure last month. A federal judge, however, has overruled Biden and ordered that Title 42 be kept in place.

The caravan, meanwhile, continues to grow. Its organizer, Louis Villagran, estimates that it is now nearly three and a half miles long.

“We consider we are around 9,500,” Villagran told Fox News, “it measures 5 1/2 km from the start to the end, people keep on joining, in the first police check there were approx 100-150 national guard, INM, state police and let us through freely.”

But as Mark Krikorian observed in an opinion piece in the New York Post, none of this is spontaneous and organic. In fact, these caravans are organized by leftist groups with definite political goals, and they seem to be taking their cues from the feckless Biden administration. The Mexican leftist group Centro de Dignificación Humana is reportedly masterminding this most recent caravan.

Pictures of the caravan show that it is largely made up of thousands of young men, not the “women and children” we’re often told they are; they band together in huge groups to provide safety in numbers and to overwhelm authorities in Mexico and the United States. Meanwhile, they get plenty of assistance on the way. US immigration lawyers, for instance, hold workshops coaching them on how to make it through the asylum process. The UN reportedly furnishes some of them with cash cards and therapists.

Ultimately, however, their greatest abettors are found in the Biden White House, which has extended the welcome mat to all of Central America. Whether it’s Vice President Kamala Harris’ obviously insincere and robotic “Do not come” message, or Biden’s attempt to junk Title 42 and dismantle immigration laws, many feel the White House is the root cause of the chaos at the border as everywhere else in current American life.
