‘She is the unicorn’: Depp attorney Camille Vasquez a hot commodity after big trial win

Johnny Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez has become a sensation following her win in his case against his ex-wife, with Hollywood talent agencies, the media, and high-profile law firms all fighting for her favor.

The 37-year-old lawyer is reportedly being deluged with offers trying to woo her away from her law firm after her brutal cross-examination of actress Amber Heard and her persuasive closing arguments in the defamation trial.

“Talent agents are circling Camille because they recognize that she is the unicorn — a smart, savvy, poised attorney whose impactful performance during the trial propelled her to a rare level of visibility,” an anonymous source told the New York Post. “And the fact that she is a woman of color is an added bonus.”

The celebrity attorney is not commenting on what she plans next, however.

While getting ready to catch a plane with her longtime boyfriend and British real estate agent Edward Owen, Vasquez was approached by an unnamed interviewer who asked her about her future plans and was met with a noncommittal reply that they had to get to the airport.

Depp’s attorney has reportedly received a number of offers from TV networks and cable channels but that may not be in the cards for the photogenic lawyer.

“Camille is inarguably a great voice to weigh in on legal matters and networks are naturally chomping at the bit to speak with her about on-air opportunities,” a former network executive commented, according to the New York Post.

She is currently an associate with Brown Rudnick and could potentially be on track to become a partner with the law firm. There is also speculation she could open her own firm.

“No firm would allow her to have a role in a big trial like this if she wasn’t on the partner track,” celebrity lawyer Judd Burstein noted. “There are two factors that go into making a partner: your quality of lawyering and ability to attract business. She can probably go anywhere and make a nice deal for herself.”

“The legal community is buzzing with firms fighting to be the highest bidder for Camille to join their team,” a legal source told the New York Post. “She’s a shark and her performance in trial showed it.”

Vasquez’s role as Depp’s attorney during the trial has been called “unprecedented” for an associate.

“Most of the time, associates aren’t given the type of roles she was given — doing the cross and closings,” a woman partner at a high-profile law firm in Los Angeles said according to the Washington Examiner, remarking she was “very surprised to see [Vasquez] was an associate.”

“I’m shocked she wasn’t promoted before the trial and I would be completely floored if she wasn’t promoted by now,” the source added.

Brown Rudnick proclaimed it is “thrilled that so many people are seeing what we’ve known for years: that Camille Vasquez is a star. … We were always confident that she had what it takes to succeed on this stage. That’s why she is a key member of the trial team and has a bright future with us.”

  1. How does Camille Vasquez of Columbian and Cuban descent, who was born in this country, become a woman of color?

She may be considered, in journalist’s language, Spanish, Hispanic, Latino, or the new-found race, LatinX, but she certainly is not a person of color.
