Nadler doesn’t want 18-yr-olds to buy guns because brains aren’t formed, but drafting is OK because numbers

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky) grilled House Chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) over his hypocritical argument that the age for owning a gun should be raised from 18 to 21 because brains at that age aren’t fully formed yet.

“We recognize different ages with different purposes. We recognize 18 for the draft. We recognize 16 for driving and in some states, we recognize 21 for drinking. So we recognize different ages for different purposes. That’s all I wanted to say,” Nadler stated at a House hearing on gun violence.

“Could I have a second to engage that,” Massie asked and then was allowed to proceed with questioning Nadler.

“Would the chairman join me in co-sponsoring a bill to raise the draft age to 21?” Massie asked.

“No,” Nadler responded.

“But the chairman feels their brains aren’t fully formed at 18, 19, and 20?” Massie pressed.

“The research does indicate that in certain respects, but the selective service needs… I mean, if the country needs, it needs people,” Nadler weakly replied.

“It needs people whose brains aren’t fully formed?” Massie grilled Nadler.

“In some respects, yes,” the chairman nonsensically responded.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) then quipped, “Hoping mine is fully formed at 40. We won’t put that to a vote.” He then tore into the Democrats’ push for gun control.

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee in that hearing on Thursday put forth a bill that contained a ton of gun control proposals, setting up a floor vote as early as next week, according to RollCall.

Nadler argued in his opening statement that the legislation would help cut down on gun violence, while Republicans staunchly opposed the proposals for gun control.

The bill combines eight individual bills, including measures that would increase the age to buy some rifles, limit magazine sizes, codify regulations banning bump stocks and ghost guns, and provide standards for safe gun storage.

Nadler said the mark-up of the bill would set the stage to pass gun control legislation when the House returns from its break next week.

“We are painfully aware that we cannot do enough today to save all of these lives,” Nadler proclaimed, referring to gun violence. “But that each life, we say, is an entire world.”

“Democrats control the major cities that have the worst murder rates,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) heatedly pointed out during the hearing. “That’s why your ideas have been shown to get people killed.”

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who is the top Republican on the committee, joined Republicans who proposed other solutions to gun crime, such as increasing school security investments and repealing gun-free school zones, over further restrictions being applied to gun rights.

Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) contended that the bill would violate the Constitution. Bishop pointed to a recent federal appeals court decision that tossed a California law setting the minimum age for gun purchases to 21, as well as the Supreme Court’s 2008 District of Columbia vs. Heller decision that referred to gun storage in the home.

“At least two parts of this proposed hodgepodge raise questions about constitutionality,” Bishop declared.

The committee predictably rejected all but one of 11 amendments Republicans offered. Massie and other Republicans argued that Democrats on the committee had advanced the legislation too quickly at the expense of understanding their own legislation.

“I think it’s indicative of the lack of thought and the unintended consequences that will stem from these bills that they’re trying to pass today, and their lack of knowledge of what it does and doesn’t allow,” Massie posited.

He offered the one successful amendment, mandating a report on denials issued by the National Instant Background Check System within a year of the bill’s enactment.

Republican opposition mirrors the steep climb for the legislation to pass in the Senate, even if the House passes the bill next week.

  1. Good ol’ Nadler, unquestionably, has inadvertently revealed a basic truth about “government.” I.e., no matter what the minions thereof might claim, they are NOT there for the progress of the citizenry, but for the enhancement of the bureaucracy.

  2. Shouldn’t be able to buy a gun but OK to join the armed forces and shoot one (oh and decide what sex you want to be at 12 or younger). Makes sense.

  3. instead of drafting kids who will do what they are told, nadler and the other old farts in congress should join the army and spill their blood. nam vet.

  4. 21 years old to buy a gun, I agree. Also 21 years old to vote … why? Because they’ve not a clue as to how the world really works at 18 years old. And everyone who doesn’t look at a pay check stub to see the unholy amount of takes taken out needs to … when you realize an understand that a great many people working pay close to 44% in taxes you’ll get mad. If you don’t have any tax deductions, brother do you pay a lot in taxes.

  5. I realize it may be hard to tell the difference but he is not a progressive, he’s just simply an idiot. The state he represents must have a very low sperm count to produce this quality of a senator who has represented them for seemingly forever.

  6. Nadler has always been and always will be a illogical buffoon…. He has never demonstrated anything other than his ignorance of the facts and devoid of any reasoning skills whatsoever.

Typical do-nothing Democratic….. sucking oxygen from the rest of us.

  7. I learned to kill when I was 17. With a hand grenade, an M1 rifle with bayonet (high port/whirl), with a 105mm recoilless rifle, and an 81mm mortar. And while my head was still soft and mushy they graduated me with honors from Advance Infantry School at Fort Ord California where I got top score sniping targets on the range. Then while still 18 I got to go home to a state where I was not allowed to buy a gun.

  8. If you can be drafted at 18, it’s because your brain’s developed enough to learn and do what the military wants to train it to do. And since that includes using a gun, the 18-year minimum limit on guns is at least consistent.
But letting the uninformed and irresponsible vote is more dangerous in the long run than letting the informed and responsible keep their own firearms. So, we should be willing to reduce the gun ownership age minimum to 16, or raise the voting age to 18 (or higher).
Of course, I’m asking for reason from people who want to those weirdly ad hoc age limits, but say children should be able to transition without parental consent… There’s something wrong with me.

  9. it is time to defund the democratic party from unions that support them.remember democratic presidents let major companies out souce us jobs to foreign countries

  10. I always knew that “Fat Jerry” Nadler was an 18 year old at heart. Someday his brain may form into something that may at some point have a rational thought.

  11. Raise the age to 21….for everything.

    Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it?

Raising the age to 21 to purchase a firearm but still must be able to be called for selective service at the age of 18 is ridiculous.

Wanting to lower the age to vote to 16 is ridiculous.

    None of it makes sense.

Criminals do not purchase firearms legally. Criminals do not receive safety training in firearms. Criminals do not have to show proficiency in firearms. Criminals will be criminals and by definition are already law breakers.

Gun control legislation does not stop criminals. If it did, DC, LA, Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago and others would have the lowest gun crime rates in the country.

It only harms law abiding citizens by taking away the means to protect ourselves, our families, our homes, our property and our communities.

Our Rights are clear. “Shall Not Be Infringed” End of Story.

    1. Our illustrious governor here in NY just signed it into law here. You can’t buy a gun under 21 but you can kill a full term baby at the time of birth. Something wrong here??

    2. I agree criminals will always be able to get guns of any kind including full-automatics so much easier than good guys. That is just a fact of life and the reason Law-abiding citizens also need to have access to weapons of all kinds for self and family protection and to level the playing field.

Otherwise, it’s like bringing a knife to a gunfight?

Not to mention “an armed society, is a polite society”.

That reminds me in high school I could get any illegal drugs I wanted. No problem, but getting legal alcohol (for those of a certain age) was most of the time a lot tougher.

  12. This is a perfect example of how the democrats typically overreact.

So according to Boris Badinov’s little brother Jerry, because one eighteen year old succumbs to the devil’s influence and commits mass murder, it means that every eighteen to twenty year old in the country will do the same thing if allowed to purchase a gun so we must deny them their right as legally recognized adults. (Boris says it sound like good plan, but how it help rid world of Moose and Squirrel?)

What’s curious is that there have been millions of young men between the ages of eighteen to twenty that have served in combat infantry units and yet we never hear about them going crazy and shooting up the place! I wonder why that is? I’d like to hear the shameless and reprehensible representative from New Dork spin that trivia fact in the democrats’ favor!

I’d also ask him if I could that if the human brain is not fully formed until age twenty one and thus cannot responsibly handle a gun, how can five to eight year old brains handle the complexities of sex, homosexuality, transgenderism, and all the other sexual perversities democrats now insist little children (many of whom still wet the bed) are mentally prepared for?

    1. Fasten your seatbelt, Sixxfingers; this is not an “over-reaction” from Democrats. This is murder perpetrated by our own government. It is nothing new; they will murder and do whatever is necessary in order to prevail. Look at the assassination of John Lennon- a mental patient released from an institution in Honolulu shows up in New York one week later with a handgun! He Had No Money! Jimmy Hendrix, an addict since his teens overdoses. Marilyn Monroe “commits suicide” while she is blatantly having an affair with President John F. Kennedy. Pearl Harbor was decimated although we had broken the Japanese code and knew- absolutely- that we would be attacked on Sunday morning, December 7th. But the Government needed to get America into the war.
These school shootings will continue, ad infinitum, until the Democrats take away our guns, or we the people take away the Democrats.
      God help us all.

    2. I had that thought too… Their statements never have continuity. They can’t have it both ways. These statements that the Democrats make need to be part and parcel for all, not pick and choose when they should be applied.

      Democrats are sure weird animals.

      1. They’re not weird animals; they’re reasoning strategically, rather than starting from first principles and then going onward from there. Everybody does that, from time to time. Where they go off the rails is letting this kind of episodic reasoning take over; the result is that they wind up with first principles they aren’t aware of. And then they wind up following them through, while the rest try to piece it together to see what’ll come next.

  13. Please someone refresh my memory…wasnt not too long ago a certain political party floating the idea of giving 16 years olds the vote?
Now who could that have been?

  14. nadler’s depends are full…. a baby diaper might be better… What do you expect from a new York politician. remember its where schumer is from.🙀

    1. No-Nads Nodler is what I’ve always called him.He sleeps through most meeting and is as full of sh!t as his ole buddy A Dam Schiffer.

  15. And what is his excuse for the dim’s wanting to lower the voting age to 16?

    1. What an easy question. 16 year old’s are easier to brainwash with socialist, communist propaganda. They (16 year old’s) make more useful idiots to vote for anyone with a D associated with their name. Makes perfect sense to me…. 😜

  16. So 18 is fine for dying and using a gun, if that 18 year old is in the military, but not for buying a gun and using it in it’s many legal uses? Is that it! You are old enough to die for your country, but not old enough to defend yourself or use it for sports or peaceful means!

    1. And what is the fine for underage possession of alcohol? The dim’s are certified fools.

  17. So, ages 17, 18, 19, etc do not have fully formed brains but are OK to draft. Then sent into combat no doubt. They become cannon fodder. Being undeveloped and dumb makes them better for this purpose? Ok to send the dummies to their death? Definitely not!!

BTW Jerry there are legions of young people who are brave, capable, and admirable members of the military and I’ll bet their brains are not deficient. Apparently yours is weakening.

When killed in civilian circumstances (up to age 25) they are counted as children.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m pissed.

    1. Nadler is brain dead and has been for quite some time. Don’t insult 18 year olds by comparing them to him.

        1. Now I have this mental picture of Nadler waddling The Green Mile. (Remember the Tom Hanks movie by that name)

  18. No more hiding the criminal juvenile records. The kids committing crimes before they are 18 years old, continue to commit crimes after they are 18 years old. How many of these delinquents would be denied a firearm; if, their criminal record was available for viewing.

  19. An 18 year old’s brain isn’t “formed enough” to handle a fire arm, but a five year old’s is ready to make a life long decision about being a different gender? You can’t make this stuff up.

  20. Having watched and listened to this dem congressman for many years, its always been obvious that its his brain that hasnt ever been formed. When he accuses anyone else of this, its pure projection on his part!

  21. “Nadler (D-N.Y.) over his hypocritical argument that the age for owning a gun should be raised from 18 to 21 because brains at that age aren’t fully formed yet.”

But they can vote at 18.

    1. Ah, but don’t forget they were pushing for voting age to drop to 16 while they hadn’t been out in the real world yet to find out 1/2 their pay is stolen by taxes or gotten away from their public school indoctrination.
