James Woods in awe as Rand Paul devours Mayorkas on disinformation: ‘Like watching a lion feast on a gazelle’

Actor James Woods thoroughly enjoyed Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) tearing into Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the formation of a newly-announced Orwellian “Disinformation Governance Board,” comparing it to a lion dining on a gazelle.

“This like watching a lion feast on a gazelle. One delicious bite at a time,” he admiringly tweeted.

Woods’ tweet follows Paul grilling Mayorkas during a Senate Homeland Security hearing on Wednesday over claims that he made about Russia and the pandemic.

“Do you think the Steele dossier included Russian disinformation?” Paul asked him.

“You say your new disinformation board is going to help the public with disinformation,” he told Mayorkas referring to what is being seen as a “Ministry of Truth” by many. “You claim it is not going to be about domestic, it is going to be about foreigners. Those evil Russians.”

“Here’s my question: The FBI concludes that the Steele dossier was full of Russian disinformation. CNN propagated this disinformation gladly for years and years. The difference between your opinion and our opinion is that no matter how despicable it is that CNN propagated this disinformation, I wouldn’t lecture them, I wouldn’t put it on a government website that CNN is wrong for propagating disinformation,” Paul continued.

“We can’t even agree what disinformation is! You can’t even agree that it was disinformation the Russians fed information to the Steele Dossier!” he emphatically pointed out.

“Where we become involved is where there is a connectivity between disinformation and threats to the security of the homeland,” Mayorkas defensively replied.

“Well, the Russians might be considered that,” Paul noted.

Then he pivoted to COVID mandates and censorship concerning masks and vaccines.

“I’ve said a million times that cloth masks don’t work. YouTube takes me down. They’re a private company I can have that beef with him. What about you? You’re going to look at that? I often say that natural immunity from having had the infection is equal to the vaccine or better. You’re going to take that down?” Paul asked Mayorkas.

“Are you going to put information out there saying that I’m spreading disinformation?” he added, putting the DHS chief on the spot.

Mayorkas then deflected, asserting that DHS staff “are not the public’s health experts to make those determinations.”

“So public health won’t be part of the ‘Disinformation Governance Board?’ No COVID disinformation? Yes or no?” Paul said, pressing Mayorkas on the issue.

Again, Mayorkas refused to directly answer the question. Instead, he attempted to blame Paul for giving him “vague” hypothetical situations. The senator contended that his examples were “very specific.”

“Do not under any circumstances accept the vaccine at a FEMA overseeing vaccination center because they are actually peddling fentanyl,” Mayorkas replied, attempting to give Paul an example of a dangerous false claim about COVID vaccines.

“Now, should I sit back and take that, or should I actually disseminate accurate information?” he asked Paul. “That’s what we’re doing, what we would do. Should FEMA issue accurate information that the vaccinations that we are administering in the sites that we oversee actually are the COVID-19 vaccines?”

“I have a greater respect for the American people than you do. I think the American people can figure out the truth,” the Kentucky Republican asserted.

“And if you think the American people need to be told there’s not fentanyl in the vaccination, feel free to say it. But the thing is, is if you are going to go around saying that you’re the arbiter of information and of disinformation, I think you have no clue. And you don’t have the perspective of history knowing that disinformation, the largest progenitor of disinformation in our history, has probably been the US government,” Paul remarked.

“Do you know who the greatest propagator of disinformation in the history of the world is? The US government,” he informed Mayorkas. “Are you familiar with McNamara? The Pentagon Papers? Are you familiar with George W. Bush and the weapons of mass destruction? Are you familiar with Iran-contra?”

“I mean, think of all the debates and disputes we’ve had over the last 50 years in our country,” Paul stated. “We worked them out by debating them. We don’t work them out by the government being the arbiter. I don’t want guardrails. I want you to have nothing to do with speech. You think we can’t determine, you know, speech by traffickers is disinformation. Do you think the American people are so stupid they need you to tell them what the truth is? You can’t even admit what the truth is with the Steele dossier. I don’t trust government to figure out what the truth is. Government is largely disseminating disinformation.”
