Details emerge about attack on Dave Chappelle, including photos of battered perp and frightening weapon

An arrest has been made and a suspect charged in the assault of comedian Dave Chappelle while he was performing at the Hollywood Bowl in Southern California.

Twenty-three-year-old Isaiah Lee was found to have a replica gun with a folding knife attached to the barrel. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has charged the suspect with assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly rushed the stage and tackled Chappelle during the “Netflix is a Joke” comedy festival Tuesday night.

Fox News Digital reached out to the LAPD for comment on the suspect’s criminal history but has not received a response.

Jail records describe Lee as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, standing five feet, 11 inches and weighing about 140 pounds.

According to the New York Post, Lee fancies himself a rapper and goes by the username “noname_trapper.” One of his songs found on YouTube is titled “Dave Chappelle” and contains a line that sounds like “Walkin’ straight into the bowl” accompanied by a laugh.

It is believed that actor and friend Jamie Foxx was among several people, mainly security personnel, who rushed to Chappelle’s defense.

“Whenever you’re in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff’s hat,” Chapelle told the audience.

Comedian and actor Chris Rock was also in attendance and joined Chapelle on stage after the attack, asking the audience jokingly if the attacker was Will Smith.

Video footage of the incident is hard to come by as the Hollywood Bowl’s policy is that cellphones must be secured in a device called a Yondr which allows guests to keep their phones on their person but seals them off from use except in designated areas, according to Variety.

“Dave Chappelle celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record-breaking sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl,” his representative said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. “This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70k fans of diverse backgrounds during the first ‘Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival,’ and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment.”

“As unfortunate and unsettling as the incident was, Chappelle went on with the show. Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with humor before Chappelle introduced the last and featured musical guests for the evening, hip-hop artists yasiin bey and Talib Kweli, a.k.a. ‘Black Star,’ who performed music from their new album — the first in nearly 24 years — which was released on Luminary. Other special comedic guests last night included Earthquake, Leslie Jones, Jeff Ross, Sebastian, Jon Stewart and Michelle Wolf.”

A spokesperson for Netflix told the outlet, “We care deeply about the safety of creators, and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence.”

  3. I really don’t understand how Isaiah Lee got that knife disguised as a gun past security in the first place.            

  4. LA DA has refused to press charges and will only charge the guy with a misdemeanor.
