Manhunt underway after Alabama deputy, murder suspect disappear on way to fictitious mental eval

A nationwide manhunt was issued Friday after an Alabama inmate charged with murder went missing along with a corrections officer in what authorities believe may have been a coordinated escape.

Inmate Casey Cole White was being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center Friday morning when Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Deputy Vicki White, the assistant director of corrections, reportedly took custody of the inmate. AD White, being of no relation to the inmate, was said to have informed the booking officer that she was escorting Casey White to the courthouse for a “mental health evaluation.”

According to a timeline released by Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton, a Florence, AL police officer identified the vehicle of AD White left near cars for sale and after repeated attempts to contact AD White failed, a preliminary investigation revealed there was no scheduled courthouse appearance for the inmate that day.

“I think she’s in danger, whatever the circumstance is,” Singleton expressed. “He was in jail for capital murder and, you know, he has nothing to lose.”

According to the timeline of events released by Singleton, AD White claimed to be the only “firearm certified” deputy available to escort the inmate to fictitious evaluation, a violation of protocol that requires two deputies be present for such a move. After the drop-off, she explained she would be going to a nearby doctor as she reported not feeling well.

Singleton later confirmed to WHNT that AD White had submitted her retirement papers the day prior, further fueling speculation that her involvement in the disappearance of Casey White may have been premeditated. Whether these actions may have been taken willingly out of an affection for the inmate, or as a result of threats or coercion from Casey White remains unknown.

“Did she assist him in escaping? That’s obviously a possibility,” Singleton offered. “So we’re looking into that as one angle of the investigation – was she kidnapped en route to the courthouse and, you know, taken against her will?”

Casey White, who was being held in state prison for other crimes, confessed in 2020 to the 2015 murder of Connie Ridgeway at her home in Rogersville. He is described as being nearly 7-feet tall by WVTM and is considered dangerous. An alert posted by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office cautions anyone who identifies the man to keep their distance and notify police immediately.

Throughout the day Friday, the nature of the investigation developed to the point that Singleton reached out the U.S. Marshals, “the FBI, ATF, Secret Service, and ALEA.” According to his timeline, “By 5:30 p.m. there [were] approximately 18-20 investigators locally on the case.”

“Our primary focus is on locating AD White and re-capturing Inmate Casey White,” Singleton concluded. “Our secondary focus is on investigating the escape itself. Indications are, since no court appearance was scheduled, that AD White assisted in the escape. The question is: did she do so willingly or was she coerced into doing it by inmate White by threatening her and/or her family or other means.”

At the time of this posting, both Casey Cole White and AD Vicki White remain missing to the authorities.

  2. I suspect there as been some sort of an intimate encounter with these two! It’s amazing what some people will do for sex!

  3. WOW!!! This sounds like someone is have a mental breakdown in judgement. I’d be looking into her financial statement to see if she made any large changes recently. Just saying

    1. She submitted her retirement the day before, so one question would be did she receive her retirement in a lump sum or in monthly payments.

  4. Of course she disappeared with him. Won’t be the first female paid to protect and uphold the law to “fall in love” with an inmate and help them escape. She already broke protocol and was escorting him “solo”, turned in retirement papers, gave false excuse as to where she was taking him, and another excuse why she wouldn’t immediately return, supposedly sick and needed a doctor. Coerce? Naw. Threats against her and her family? Naw.

  5. Gut feeling? The bureaucrat made a free will choice and took a hard “left” turn straight into the Dark Side.
