Turley: Dems say they will ‘protect democracy’, but ‘courts are saying they are trying to rig elections’

Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley blasted the Democrat Party on Friday for its hypocrisy in claiming to “protect democracy” despite several recent smackdowns by judges unhappy with the left’s obviously gerrymandered congressional district maps that he claimed were a clear bid to “rig elections.”

“Well, what’s fascinating is that districts like the one for House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler [D-N.Y.] – who has spoken against gerrymandering – is very much like the original gerrymander district,” Fox News contributor and attorney Jonathan Turley said on Friday morning’s “America’s Newsroom” on Fox News.

“It looks like a salamander,” the legal professor said. “It is so contorted.”

“What the Republicans were complaining about is that the Democrats were trying to basically reduce their advantage in the state to just five districts, to reduce the number of Republicans going to Congress. A judge earlier said this was raw partisan gerrymandering. Now this appellate court has agreed,” Turley said.

“Keep in mind, recently a Maryland judge also struck down a democratic map saying it was unconstitutional and raw partisan gerrymandering. And then in Wisconsin, a court went with the Republican map over the Democratic map because of similar concerns,” he added.

“This is making it more and more difficult for the Democrats to run on this ‘protect democracy’ slogan when courts are saying they are trying to rig elections,” Turley said.

“What’s really interesting is that the New York voters earlier said they didn’t want any more gerrymandering. They created a commission so they could have a non-political, fair district map,” the constitutional law professor recalled.

In fact, late last month a conservative New York State Supreme Court Judge ruled that New Yorks’s recently re-drawn congressional maps were “unconstitutionally and politically drawn by the Democrat-controlled state Legislature.”

“The democratic legislature essentially rigged that process as well guaranteeing it would fail and the map drawing would come back to them. So this is the frustration of New York voters to say they don’t want any more of this,” Turley explained. “They want to have fair elections.”

Some claimed Turley had it all wrong and it was the Republicans playing the gerrymandering game, referencing the move the Florida state legislature made this week to pass a revised redistricting map that increased the number of Republican-heavy districts in the state amidst Democrats’ temper tantrums over the legislature’s actions that day.

Others collectively yawned as they believed that election fraud was old news discovered in the 2020 election.

  1. “Dems say they will ‘protect democracy’”you have to understand they are very good at redefining terms, for instance, they call themselves “progressive” when they are anything but; so they have redefined “democracy” to mean what they want it to mean. WHAT THEY WILL NOT PROTECT IS THE CONSTITUTION AND IT’S ORIGINAL MEANING!!!!!!!

  2. Nadler is another example of an old, and brain damaged democrat, who is still trying to run the country, but really badly. The older they get, and some have spent most of their lives in Congress lording it over their fellow Americans, the worst they get! Although they are always really good at picking our pockets. TERM LIMITS NOW!

  3. “Trying to RIG Elections” ??? TRYING? They’re focking masters at it and even BRAG about rigging the 2020 election !!

  4. We had democracy for 4 years with Trump. We know what democracy is. Republicans and democrats differ on the meaning.
