CNN host Jake Tapper grilled Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) on Sunday during CNN’s “State of the Union” about a report from The New York Times that asserted the Jan. 6 House select committee was divided on whether to make a criminal referral regarding former President Donald Trump to the Department of Justice.

The New York Times reported that committee members were in disagreement over the issue. Cheney adamantly denied the claim.

The committee reportedly claims it has sufficient evidence of Trump obstructing a congressional proceeding and conspiring to defraud the American people to refer the matter to the DOJ, according to sources who spoke with the media outlet.

The Times goes on to assert the members of the panel are at odds over whether the symbolic referral will negatively impact the DOJ’s ongoing investigation into Trump.

“There’s a dispute on your committee, as I don’t need to tell you, some people feel like a referral, which actually has no legal weight, would only taint the process under which Attorney General Merrick Garland might act. Some feel that that’s the wrong argument, that right is right, and the committee has the evidence it has. Where do you come down?” Tapper quizzed Cheney on the issue.

“There’s not really a dispute on the committee,” Cheney replied attempting to put the kibosh on the rumor.

“The committee is working in a really collaborative way to discuss these issues, as we are with all of the issues we’re addressing, and we’ll continue to work together to do so. So I wouldn’t characterize there as being a dispute on the committee,” she commented.

The panel is comprised of seven Democrats and two tepid Never-Trump Republicans who were tapped by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Cheney called them “the single most collaborative committee on which I’ve ever served.”

“I’m very proud of the bipartisan way in which we’re operating, and I’m confident that we will work to come to an agreement on all of the issues that we’re facing. So I wouldn’t say that it’s accurate right now to say that there’s a dispute on this issue,” she remarked.

Tapper also asked Cheney if the committee has enough evidence to refer Trump on criminal charges to the DOJ.

“We have not made a decision about referrals on the committee,” she non-committedly responded.

“I think that it is absolutely the case, it’s absolutely clear, that what President Trump was doing, what a number of people around him were doing, that they knew it was unlawful. They did it anyway,” she continued.

“I think what we have seen is a massive and well-organized and well-planned effort that used multiple tools to try to overturn an election,” the Wyoming Republican alleged. The committee has “got a tremendous amount of testimony and documents that I think very, very clearly demonstrate the extent of the planning and the organization and the objective.”

She reiterated, “The objective was absolutely to try to stop the kind of electoral votes, to try to interfere with that official proceeding. And it’s absolutely clear that they knew what they were doing was wrong.”

Cheney also said Ivanka Trump’s testimony this week was “helpful, as has been the testimony of many hundreds of others who have appeared in front of the committee.”

  1. Cheney has been the biggest disappointment ever elected, IMO. I also think her committee is investigating the wrong people. They need to look at IMO, Pelousy, the Capitol Police, the FBI, and the murderer of Ashli Babbitt. Seemed to me that the Capitol Police ushered people into the building, and I believe the FBI were there to cause trouble. Look no further than the trumped up WHITMER kidnapping and the FBI’s involvement there. BTW, who is Ray EPPS? I have my opinion, but it surely makes one wonder why he isn’t being investigated too. I THINK THIS COMMITTEE IS INVESTIGATING THE WRONG PEOPLE, AND THAT CHENEY IS TRYING TO USE IT TO FURTHER HER OWN POLITICAL ASPERATIONS. She’d never get my vote.

  2. I love how the dimwits continue the erroneous attempt to deceive the people by insisting Trump was trying to “overturn an election” when in fact the election had not been certified. How can it be “overturned”? Trump was attempting to have the suspicions addressed, nothing more nothing less. Particularly since SCOTUS failed to do the job. SCOTUS should have stayed the results until a through investigation could be concluded, thereby certifying the rightful winner, upholding election integrity, and restoring peoples faith in the process.

    1. ANYONE who believes the American election process is not fraught with abuse and fraud is a functional moron.

  3. Cheney is just spinning her wheels and running her mouth! She is a despicable RINO whose career in politics…as least as a so-called Republican…is over. She’s a Pelosi-wannabe and doesn’t make the grade.

    1. Lizzy Cheney is trying to get the Wyoming Dems to re-elect her.

She is a perfect example of the joke that ends in “we know what she is and we are now discussing price”!

      1. I think she was trying to further her own political asperations. I think she had, but has ruined, hopes for a much higher office. Daddy’s name will only get you so far if you act stupidly.

  4. “Cheney denies NY Times report claiming Jan. 6 committee is split on Trump criminal referral to DOJ”Then why have they not reffered it to the DOJ? I suspect that they have not found grounds to do it. Egg on face again.

  5. How is it that anyone takes this woman seriously anymore? Yeah, she’s raised a lot of campaign funds, but it’s all from out of state, and she literally has no support from her VOTERS. You know, the people who determine whether or not she goes to congress.

  6. I’m very anxious for and IMO, one is needed of Pelousy and some on the 1-6 committee to have to suffer a thorough investigation. I think those involved need one, and I’m speaking of some on the committee, Pelousy, FBI and some of the Capitol Police. Maybe even another politician. IMO, this whole 1-6 was a set-up arranged by some of the above mentioned.

  7. If they had solid evidence Trump would be behind bars! They are a disgrace to our country, people are well aware of their lies. They continue to interrogate innocent people in the hopes of creating evidence !

    1. They’re trying to drag this out until the elections in hopes of influencing the low information voters to vote democrat.

  8. Just count the days until these treasonous politicians are out of office. This committee is not even legal! It’s another attack on Americans because they say they can. It’s the KKK going after Americans because they don’t like what they say or do.

  9. He must be guilty . Why? Because he has an ingrown toe nail. –What does that have to do with it. Well, it proves, uhhh it proves, uhh, it just does so take my word for it.
