Swalwell dragged for repeating dishonest claim that Richard Grenell ‘used to hang out with Nazis’

Evidently Twitter feuds take precedent over fulfilling the responsibilities as a duly elected representative for Democratic Congressmen Eric Swalwell (CA), who stepped into a spat between U.S. Rep. Ted Lieu (CA) and former acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell to dredge up a previously discredited two year old lie about Nazi ties.

Late Thursday night, Grenell and Lieu were hashing out their differences over the appointment of now Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. The former DNI and former American ambassador to Germany correctly indicated the limited criteria that President Joe Biden had applied in selecting his nominee was unprecedented.

“No President has ever vocally excluded Asians, Hispanics and men for the Court,” Grenell wrote. “Stop defending this horrific precedent of intolerance. Shame on you for supporting racism and sexism.”

Grenell later pointed out Lieu’s perpetuation of the Russian disinformation narrative about Hunter Biden’s laptop associating it with Communist China’s preferential story arc. It was to that post that Swalwell decided to jump to the defense of his fellow California lawmaker by libeling the reputation of Grenell once again.

Lieu, who could have outright dismissed the social media postings of Grenell, claimed his knowledge of the former acting DNI was limited to his being a “boring internet troll” and asked Swalwell if he had “proof” of his allegations.

Then Swalwell reposted a picture that he had used on July 22, 2020 of Grenell with a member of the German Bundestag at a 4th of July party for all Bundestag members. When it was initially debunked, Grenell noted it is illegal to be a Nazi in Germany.

“You have a thing for pushing hoaxes. First Russians, now Nazis. This is a member of the German Bundestag where it’s illegal to be a Nazi. This is from America’s 4th of July Party where all Bundestag members were invited,” Grenell said in a tweet at the time.

Swalwell’s claims were once again easily refutable and observers of the mudslinging jumped in to slam the lawmakers, in particular Swalwell, for their reprehensible behavior on this matter and throughout their careers.

While one astute observer proposed preserving Swalwell’s libelous allegations as evidence, (have no fear, the internet is forever), another noted the complete lack of refutation on Grenell’s original point.

It was then that Olivia Troye, a former adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, decided to unwittingly drive the conversation toward further proof in support of Grenell’s character in a flailing effort to discredit him.

Troye claimed Grenell invited Pence to a “white supremacist gathering” which was refuted with lauding from Pence himself on the job Grenell was doing as ambassador.

Grenell added an exclamation point in the middle of the public debate when he railed against the repeated tactics used by the “Left” to target anyone, especially those who are highlighting their hypocrisies.

“Once you realize the Left will call everyone who disagrees with them a racist, sexist, homophobe or Russian agent then you will learn to fight back,” he wrote.

“They do it to scare you into silence,” he contended. “But their name calling doesn’t work anymore. Fight back!”
