New York City’s bail reform initiative continues to foster more violent crime in the city, despite consistently obtuse denials from city leaders that releasing violent criminals back into the streets with no bail might actually contribute to rising crime.

Now more than ever, citizens are forced to protect themselves and their property without the assistance of police forces which are now hamstrung by Democrat policies and understaffing.

Louie Suljovic, owner of Louie’s Pizzeria in Queens along with his father, were both stabbed a collective 10 times as they intervened to rescue a woman from an armed robber outside their pizzeria.

Hailed as heroes in the community, military veteran Louis Suljovic told Fox News Thursday that his father, Cazim, is still hospitalized but his condition appears to be improving.

“Fox and Friends First” co-host Ashley Strohmier recalled that the Suljovic’s kept their business open during the pandemic and made a practice of donating food to local people in need. She wondered rhetorically if Suljovic thought the city was showing the same kind of generosity and goodwill towards business owners like himself who provided so much but are now suffering as a result of policies that favor criminals over victims.

He responded, “You’ve had the change of the bail reform, which has now created a new breed of criminals that know they can do whatever they want and get away with it.”

When asked if he believed a few years ago that his community could be in its current state of despair, he replied, “New York City is very big, but each borough … is [as] much a neighborhood, and everybody really knows each other. If you asked me this three years ago, no, it would have never been like this,” he said. “I’ve never seen such criminal activity and pure violence.”

He added that crime in his community is “completely insane” and that bail reform is “100 percent” responsible for the absolute chaos in his borough and elsewhere.

“When you can be arrested two or three times in literally a 24-hour period and be out and just allowed to do it again, what’s stopping you?” Suljovic asked. “There’s nothing stopping you. It’s basically you’re being rewarded.”

When Cazim Suljovic saw a woman who had just been robbed outside their business, he called for his son and the two sprang into action and gave chase to the suspects. A 61-year-old Asian woman, later identified as Eun Hee Chang, was robbed by two males and one female. She herself was stabbed once and is recovering. When the father and son duo caught up with the suspects, a fight ensued and 68-year-old Cazim was stabbed nine times, while 38-year-old Louie was stabbed once in the back, puncturing a lung, according to a story in TODAY.

“If the communities don’t start taking back their areas, we’re going to lose our city,” the younger Suljovic told the outlet.

“We’ve had enough of the sheer violence on people who are incapable of defending themselves,” he added.

“My father’s character – he taught us to do the best thing for everybody and always try to protect people,” he reiterated to Strohmier Thursday. “We have to do something for other people who are weaker, who can’t do for themselves.”

“That’s what bad people do. They prey on people who are weak; never people who are equal or tougher.”

The younger Suljovic stressed he believes the police are doing the best they can with what they’ve been given, and what they have is far less than they used to, thanks to the backward logic of Democrats who unfortunately keep getting elected to lead.

“It’s not that law enforcement is not doing their job … it’s all the laws that after they do what they’re supposed to, [the laws] fail the community.”

“I think all communities are coming to a point where they have to protect themselves,” he said.

He concluded, “This Manhattan DA said they will not prosecute for so many different things – it just tells you what your local leaders [and] officials, what their mindset is.”

  1. Such a joke of a mayor. He ran on fixing crime. Then he does nothing but consult with mayor Lightfoot in Chicago! Ha. I see he’s following her advice.

  2. WOW!!! NYC, you just changed the color of skin for your mayor. Seems just as corrupt or maybe a little worse. Just saying

  3. NYC, like Chicago, Baltimore, and many other democrat-controllers cities, is now the definition of a hell hole.

  4. Everyone here seems to be saying the same thing…
Protect yourself , bring a gun to a knife fight , and shoot straight !
And , of course , the ” usual ” suspects are what we are dealing with ….over and over and over, etc.
    Had enough yet America ?

  5. I am a retired street cop of 38 years. The number of times I happened upon a crime is rare. The Framers of the Constitution knew this back then. That is why they gave every person the right to carry and to protect yourself and others with the use of deadly force when necessary. Too many people think it is only police who can protect you and that is many times fatally wrong. We are a deterrent at best and an investigator after the fact. Your life and welfare and your possessions are yours alone. It falls on you alone to protect them. Police will help only after you are a victim! Google Frontier Justice!

    1. Carry a gorilla bar, use it when you need to. I carry a knife. I’m considering upgrading to a gun.

  6. People always support people that are just like them. The leftist DA is exactly the same as the perps in this story. He is just more accomplished in his corruption. Oh and he wears a $2000 suit. There is only one solution. PU.

  7. If we start hunting down liberals and putting them out of their misery, this would stop.

    Just sayin’…

  8. It is a shame that people can’t go about their daily lives to be able to live. Bail reform is definitely an issue. Just remember when elections come up, vote for the candidates that want to protect you. Your new mayor is NOT one of those people. He talks a big game but he seems he can’t or won’t get the job done. Mr. Suljovic I pray for you and your father. Don’t forget your guys are really HEROS!

  9. GET A GUN! If someone comes at you with a KNIFE – then that’s THEIR STUPID FAULT for BRINGING a KNIFE to a GUN FIGHT!! NYC needs a small army of Paul Kersey’s!! I know that “Guardian Angel” or something does some “safety walks”, but if the POLICE are not going to clean up the filth, let other handle it and set a LIMIT like SHOPLIFTING!! NO more than THREE THRUGS shot per DAY!!

  10. So what of the three suspects? Are they still at large? Had he chased them down with a firearm the suspects could have and should have been easily eliminated from society at that point. Oh and by the way what skin color were the three suspects that stabbed and robbed an old lady? Inquiring minds want to know

  11. A DA who refuses to prosecute certain laws, is effectively unilaterally vetoing those laws without the authority to do so and that should be a crime that is prosecuted.

    1. I would suspect an “OBSTRUCTION of JUSTICE” charge would be appropriate! OR Breach of OATH! There HAS to be SOMETHING!!
