Over a dozen House Democrats are calling on the Department of Justice to confront “insider threats to election systems” allegedly posed by Republican candidates in local elections who believe former President Donald Trump’s assertion that there was election fraud in the 2020 presidential race.

The lawmakers sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday obviously fearing that Democrats will get trounced nationwide in the midterm elections in November. They expressed concerns that conservatives candidates could attempt to influence future elections results if they are elected, something that many contend the Democrats themselves are doing.

“Unfortunately, many of the candidates seeking to fill newly vacated state and local election posts support former President Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was stolen,” the Democrats asserted. “We are concerned that this new cohort of election officials may be inclined to abuse their authority to directly influence the results of future elections.”

They alluded to “the recent resurgence of anti-democratic tactics among election officials in key battleground states.” The fearful Democrats went on to remark that they are “deeply concerned about bad actors who may dismiss their legal obligations in order to secure victory for their favored candidate or candidates.”

The Democrats who penned the letter claim there is an “active effort to recruit and convince election officials at all levels of governance to sabotage future elections by spreading conspiracy theories and promoting the claims of election deniers.”

To make their flawed case against Republicans, they disingenuously highlighted incidents in Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and other races for secretary of state and state attorney general.

Democrats contend that “at least ten candidates running for secretary of state and eight running for state attorney general across the country back false claims that the 2020 election was illegitimate.”

Former President Trump is not the only one who claims or feels that there was fraud in the last election. Millions of Americans share that sentiment and that terrifies Democrats who now foresee losing their grip on power in the midterms both in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Their mantra from the beginning was that there was absolutely no fraud and that Trump’s own attorney general, William Barr, backed that assertion in December of 2020.

Now, Democrats are demanding that the Department of Justice ensures the integrity of the electoral system by going into individual states to investigate, file charges, and prosecute Republicans who deny the results of the 2020 election that was handed to President Joe Biden, effectively accusing the GOP of rigging elections even before voting begins.

Part of their brazen efforts to unconstitutionally sway elections is to deploy “nonpartisan” election monitors to polling sites that are sure to be anything but that.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice told The Hill via a statement released on Wednesday that “the Department has received the letter and will review it.”

Democratic Reps. Deborah Ross (NC), Adam Schiff (CA), Ruben Gallego (AZ), and Terri Sewell (AL) wrote the letter that was sent to the Department of Justice. It was signed by Democratic Reps. Tony Cardenas (CA), André Carson (IN), Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL), Mark DeSaulnier (CA), Dwight Evans (PA), Mondaire Jones (NY), Jim McGovern (MA), Joe Neguse (CO), Marie Newman (IL), Katie Porter (CA), Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA), Eric Swalwell (CA), and Nikema Williams (GA).
