Bongino: Where are the fact-checkers on the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ misinformation in Florida?

Former Secret Service agent turned commentator and radio/TV host Dan Bongino used the latest episode of his weekend Fox News show to excoriate the “fact-checkers” who’ve been ignoring or making excuses for all the misinformation being disseminated by members of the left and their allies.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Unfiltered,” Bongino specifically zeroed in on all the misinformation being disseminated about Florida’s just-passed Parental Rights in Education bill, which both left-wing politicians and their media allies have falsely labeled the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

“I live in Florida. I bet a lot of you heard about this bill that just passed called the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill. Did you hear about that? Yeah, you probably did, despite the fact that there’s no bill that says ‘don’t say gay.’ ‘Gay’ isn’t even in the language of the bill, no less ‘don’t say gay.’ Kind of weird, right,” he said.

“Yet the media-approved narrative is that it’s now illegal somehow to say the word gay in school in Florida. … Although if you actually read the bill … it only prohibits teachers from engaging in conversations about sexual orientation and gender identity with children from kindergarten through third grade.”

All that is true. Yet there are dozens, if not hundreds, of stories from the establishment press touting the non-existent “Don’t Say Gay” bill, and it’s having the undeniable effect of fooling people into believing a completely contrived narrative:

Notice how all the “sources” cited by the far-left activist above are establishment media outlets.

Continuing his remarks on Fox News, Bongino asked why the “fact-checkers” haven’t been calling out this misinformation like they routinely call out supposed “misinformation” from conservative media — “misinformation,” it should be noted, that almost always turns out to actually be true.

“Where are the ‘fact-checkers’ on that one? Taking a little vacation? We got a major misinformation problem here, and it’s coming largely from the left bureaucrats and politicians, and that’s why Americans have forgone any trust in institutions like the media, the CDC, Dr. Fauci,” the Fox News host said.

“They don’t trust that people are going to tell them the truth. All they had to do was say that there were biological research facilities in Ukraine instead of siccing ‘fact-checkers’ on people and then being forced to admit it later on,” he added, referencing a previous segment about the media’s lies about the biolabs in Ukraine.

“‘The ‘Don’t Say Gay Bill’ doesn’t exist. The initial information you were given on that is almost always wrong. Wait 48 to 72 hours. You might have to wait 48 weeks at this point, [but] I guarantee you most of these stories will be debunked,” he concluded.

Not factored into his commentary was the additional fact that neither the press nor their “fact-checkers” appear to be acting in good faith. Instead they’re acting like “lapdogs for the” Democrat Party, according to fellow radio show host Ben Shapiro.

Speaking on his weekday radio program last week, Shapiro gave a couple examples to demonstrate what he felt was the obvious bias inherent in the media calling the Parental Rights in Education bill the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

“This would be the equivalent to if Democrats passed some sort of bill in the state of New York that enshrined abortion until the ninth month … and the Republicans had termed this the ‘Kill the Babies’ bill … and the entire media had immediately started using that language, every headline had started using that language. That would demonstrate that the media were just lapdogs for the Republican Party,” he said.

Except in this case, he added, “they have done that with the Democrat talking point with regard to the so-called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.”

Shapiro then proceeded to list some headlines from purportedly respectable mainstream outlets repeating the Democrats’ talking point.

“So for example, the [Associated Press], this is just a straight headline. … It says, ”Don’t Say Gay’ Bill Passes In Florida, Goes To Governor.’ That’s not the name of the bill. This is like if Republicans had labeled Build Back Better “Giant Waste Of Money Pork Barrel Spending Bullcrap” bill and that had been the headline of an AP article,” he said.

Putting it all together, he concluded that the fact that both the media and the so-called “fact-checkers” simply “reflect whatever the [Democrat Party] propaganda point of the day is truly astonishing.”

An astonishing sign of bias, that is. Bias that continues to be reflected in the press’s “reporting”:

Though there are a few rare voices in the establishment who are speaking the truth
