The musician Grimes is reported to be in a relationship with former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning after declaring her relationship with billionaire CEO Elon Musk is “fluid.”
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, is said to be dating and living with Manning in her home in Texas, according to Page Six. “They’re getting serious,” a source told the outlet. “They U-Hauled it. They’ve been living together in Austin.”
Though Page Six did not receive comment from either party or their representatives, they cite individuals close to the matter and public interactions between the two on Twitter where Grimes has accounted for her whereabouts and Manning has supported those claims with the one-word response, “vouch.”

Manning, born Bradley, was convicted of violations of the Espionage Act after a July 2013 court-martial that resulted in a 35-year prison sentence. Outgoing President Barack Obama had commuted the sentence in January 2017, but Manning was detained once more for civil contempt after refusing testimony before a grand jury investigating WikiLeaks.
The Page Six report came only one day after Vanity Fair revealed its cover story for their April issue which included Grimes’ announcement that she and Musk had just had their second child together, this time through surrogacy.
Grimes rose to fame as a fiercely independent solo artist championed by the Internet—then she fell in love with Elon Musk. She speaks to V.F. about internet criticism, her new album, and the secret arrival of her second child, “Exa Dark Sideræl Musk.”

Of her relationship with Musk, Grimes said in the article, “There’s no real word for it. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time…We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”

Grimes clarified on Thursday that she and Musk had, in fact, broken up in a lengthy thread where she promoted the article from Vanity Fair and also voiced her opinion on politics.
A bit of fact checking: I am not a capitalist democrat. I don’t ascribe to any political party or economic model that currently exists. I think I was referring to how I am perceived but that is not my actual stance.

“I am not a capitalist democrat,” Grimes wrote in part. “I don’t ascribe to any political party or economic model that currently exists. I think I was referring to how I am perceived but that is not my actual stance.”
This was a direct response to her comment in the article where she discussed how she used to be “far left.”
“I mean, when people say I’m a class traitor that is not…an inaccurate description,” Grimes said. “I was deeply from the far left and I converted to being essentially a capitalist Democrat. A lot of people are understandably upset.”
The most striking political shift in this appears to be the opposing philosophies of Manning and Musk. Manning, despite the WikiLeaks history, has come to be viewed as a proponent of censorship for differing views.
Musk, on the other hand, has stood firmly as a “free speech absolutist” as he has maintained operation for all news outlets through his Starlink satellite system.
Starlink has been told by some governments (not Ukraine) to block Russian news sources. We will not do so unless at gunpoint.
