‘Interesting timing’ of CDC’s updated mask guidance suspicious to some, new rules don’t go far enough for others

The latest revision of masking guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has caught the attention of many over its ‘interesting timing” as well as drawn resistance from organizations that represent doctors and teachers who remain deeply dug in.

On Friday, the CDC followed the trend of relaxed mask requirements that have been announced by Democrats in control of areas where people have suffered the harshest restrictions over the course of the nightmarish twenty-three months since the beginning of the pandemic as COVID has miraculously vanished at a time when the party’s political fortunes have taken a turn for the worse and President Joe Biden has failed to deliver on his campaign promises of defeating the virus.

In releasing its new guidance in a move that was widely expected, the agency dialed down its recommendations for around 70 percent of the country which will now be permitted to ditch the masks in indoor settings as long as there is not a high rate of hospitalizations in their communities.

During Friday’s media briefing announcing the rollback, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said that the guidance has been updated with the nation being in a “stronger place” while leaving open the possibility that the stricter mask requirements could be imposed again at an unspecified time in the future.

“We wanna give people a break from things like mask wearing when our levels are low and then have the ability to reach for them again, should things get worse in the future,” Walensky said.

The announcement was slammed by Gerald E. Harmon, president of the American Medical Association who urged Americans to continue to wear the masks while stating that he personally will continue to do so in “most indoor settings,” a statement that should raise questions on whether there will ever be a time when the mask fanatics will willingly relinquish the face coverings that have become regular apparel for much of the Democrat Party base.

Dr. Harmon also slammed the CDC after it cut the quarantine isolation period to five days, calling the decision “confusing” and “counterproductive.”

Also unhappy with the new mask guidelines was the National Education Association, the massive teachers’ union which boasts over 3 million members.

“Today the CDC announced new guidance, shifting the determination of masking measures to the local level, based on local conditions. While we are encouraged by the new guidance, local governments must bring educators to the table when deciding how to keep school communities safe.” the organization tweeted.

Others pointed out the suspicious timing, coming only days before Biden is set to give his State of the Union address, one in which he could declare victory over COVID and hope that nearly two years of hysteria and his authoritarian vaccination mandates will dissipate in the fog of a Russia-Ukraine war and be forgotten by the time voters go to the polls in November.

“Interesting timing for CDC to announce eliminating their masking & distancing orders for children & the ‘vast majority’ of Americans— a new war, hrs after a Supreme Court pick is named, late on a Friday afternoon, and 2 business days before a SOTU speech,” tweeted Dr. Marty Makary.

One user posted a copy of a memo circulated by political strategists recommending that Democrats should claim the win over COVID and move on.

Others chimed in.

Obviously “the science” has changed with an emphasis on it being all about political science now with the CDC being little more than an arm of the Democratic Party.
