Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz gave President Joe Biden a tongue lashing for his handling of Russia and Ukraine and accused the commander in chief of being the “best thing that ever happened” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” the two-term senator spoke to anchor Bill Hemmer about Biden’s failed policy on the Ukrainian border indicating “it hasn’t worked at all.”

“Joe Biden’s surrender and disastrous retreat from Afghanistan is the worst military catastrophe for the United States in decades, and the consequences — at the time I said as a result of this incredible weakness, all of our enemies across the globe are looking to Washington, they are taking the measure of the man in the Oval Office and as a result, as I said back in August, the chances of Russia invading Ukraine had just risen tenfold. The chances of China invading Taiwan had just risen tenfold. We are seeing the first of those two shoes dropping today because of Biden’s weakness, but it’s even worse than that.”

“If you look at what the Ukrainians want, they’ve been very explicit,” Cruz later explained. “They’ve asked the United States explicitly, ‘Put sanctions on Nord Stream 2, right now, today.’ Joe Biden could do that this morning. He refuses to do it. And they said, number two, provide lethal military aid, give us the weapons to defend ourselves.”

Cruz believes the potential Ukrainian invasion is directly tied to Biden playing politics at the Capitol and drumming up Senators’ support for Russia which .

“Joe Biden came to Capitol Hill and personally lobbied Democratic senators to vote against Russian sanctions. That’s why we’re facing this invasion,” the 51-year-old U.S. Senator said. “I gotta say Bill, Joe Biden becoming president is the best thing that ever happened, tragically, for Vladimir Putin.”

Cruz’s advocates had a simple and unified message in response while those dissenting with his assessment had to resort to name-calling.

The reporting on the Ukraine border security situation has come under attack from multiple Fox News hosts including Maria Bartiromo that suggested Biden is using the “hysteria” over Ukraine as a “ruse” to distract from the bigger story about Hillary Clinton and the recent revelations that indicate the Russia investigation was a complete hoax.

“Was this a ruse? Was this whole thing an effort to take attention away from what Hillary Clinton did and what we know to be a complete hoax over this Russia investigation?” Bartiromo asked Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Al) last week, before accusing Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan of his possible role in the scandal.

“What are your thoughts? Because I know Jake Sullivan worked for Hillary Clinton,” Bartiromo said, “and he was one of the people who was peddling this Russia collusion lie for four years. And there he is now as NSA coming up with this hysteria over Russia.”

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has also mocked the media’s reporting on Ukraine and suggested that if you believe the mainstream media, virtually everyone, including the Ukrainian president himself is an “agent of Putin.”

“If you’re not terrified about the prospect of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the question is whose side are you on here? Whose side are you on?!” Carlson said jokingly last month on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” after noting that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky had downplayed concerns about an invasion.

“And we know the answer to that question. You’re on Vladimir Putin’s side.” Carlson explained. “So it looks like the president of Ukraine himself has been compromised by Russian misinformation. The Ukrainian president is what we on cable news refer to as ‘an agent of Putin.’”
