Mich. Gov. Whitmer’s take on trucker convoy is textbook lesson in Democrat amnesia

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) demonstrated a lack of self-awareness or is suffering “amnesia” according to critics after her recent comments on the Canadian Freedom Convoy.

When asked about the possibility of similar protests coming to the United States in a CNN interview, Whitmer said, “It’s dangerous. They’re inciting and encouraging people to break the law.”

Many were quick to point out the record of Whitmer’s behavior during the pandemic, citing restrictions on commerce that impacted the economy.

These and other actions by Whitmer were deemed authoritarian by the Michigan legislature prompting votes to remove her emergency powers that were operating under a law deemed unconstitutional by the Michigan Supreme Court.

This prompted questions of Whitmer’s self-awareness.

Whitmer’s apparent dismissal of her own past actions brought one Twitter user to suggest:

He may be onto something considering Whitmer isn’t alone in her views on the Freedom Convoy.

Here is White House press secretary Jen Psaki speaking on the impact the truckers are having.

“The president expressed his concern that United States companies and workers are experiencing serious effects including slow downs in production, shortened work hours and plant closures,” she said.

These remarks brought up questions of where concerns of “significant direct impacts on citizen’s lives and livelihoods” were during 2020 riots and throughout COVID lockdowns.

Of course, members of the general public aren’t the only ones who seem to be aware of the impact that protests are supposed to have. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made her opinion on the matter clear in December 2020 when discussing failed attempts at “polite language.”

Michigan Republicans voiced their support for the trucker convoy while calling out Whitmer and President Joe Biden.

“I stand with the truckers. I support all working people who are standing up for personal freedom,” former Detroit police Chief James Craig said in a statement.

“What we are seeing is a tremendous lack of leadership from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President Joe Biden and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Instead of focusing on the protestors and demonizing the truckers, these career politicians should be focused on how their irresponsible pandemic response is hurting our economies,” he added.

“Vaccine mandates are going to cripple our supply chain,” U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain tweeted. “The Democrats can blame freedom loving truck drivers, but the real blame is on the vaccine requirements at the border.”
