CNN makes ‘wild pivot’ after losing Zucker

CNN is either having an identity crisis or, with the rapidly approaching midterms, the network’s officially-sanctioned talking points have changed.

Little else can explain the woke network’s sudden and, frankly, schizophrenic pivot on, among other things, mask mandates.

Such is the response, following an appearance on Monday of CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen on “Anderson Cooper 360,” in which she seemed to imply that the “time and place” for masks are coming to an end.

When asked if she agreed with the states that are doing away with masks in schools, Wen shocked the Twitter-verse by answering, “I do.”

“There was, and is, a time and place for pandemic restrictions,” Wen said. “But when they were put in, it was always with the understanding that they would be removed as soon as we can. And, in this case, circumstances have changed. Case counts are declining. Also,” she added, “the science has changed.”

Apparently, in addition to making vaccines available to five-year-olds, Americans have finally grasped the concept of “one-way masking,” as Wen explained: “The idea that, even if other people around you are not wearing masks, if you wear a high-quality mask, that also protects you, the wearer, too.”

Really? And it only took two years for the “experts” to come to this conclusion?

Sounds fishy, but according to Wen, now that we know that one-way masking is a thing, we can be trusted with taking responsibility for ourselves.

“I am not saying — I don’t think anyone really is saying — no one should ever wear masks,” Wen said, “but rather that the responsibility should shift from a government mandate imposed from the state or local district of the school … to an individual responsibility by the family who can still decide that their child can wear a mask if needed.”

The segment caused conservative eyebrows to rise to a level rivaling Nancy Pelosi’s.

Political commentator Clay Travis thought the abrupt departure of CNN President Jeff Zucker may have something to do with the network’s newly tested tune.

“So Jeff Zucker gets fired and suddenly [CNN’s] top health expert goes on the network and says covid restrictions should end & parents should get to decide whether their kids wear masks in schools,” Travis tweeted. “This is a wild pivot.”

“I mean, these are all the things we have been saying on [The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show] for nearly a year now,” Travis said in a follow-up tweet. “Nothing has really changed. The politics of masking, especially in schools, has just turned so decisively against Biden that his experts changed their opinions overnight. It’s wild to see.”

Senator Ted Cruz agreed that “something” had changed, but it wasn’t the science, as Wen claimed.

“It was the politics,” Cruz tweeted.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis agreed, stating, “The medical science on forced masking children didn’t change — the political science did.”

A tweet from Wen on Tuesday, doubling down on her “these times, they are a-changing” theme caught the eye of Jack Posobiec, who promptly fired off three tweets to ensure his followers know that Wen is the former president of Planned Parenthood and should not be trusted.

Still, one can’t deny that the tune at CNN is decidedly different, and it isn’t just Wen who is humming it.

As American Wire News reported, Jake Tapper went after the White House for implying that any journalist who asks the Biden administration to show some evidence along with their claims is disloyal to America.

On “The Lead,” Tapper noted, “that U.S. intelligence and the Pentagon have not only gotten things wrong before, they have openly lied to the American people before.”

So, what gives?

Likely, it’s a new act in the same play we’ve been witnessing since Biden took office.

With the worldwide support of the Canadian truckers, dismal job approval numbers, angry parents, and a study from Johns Hopkins University that showed the lockdowns that crushed our economy simply did not work, Biden desperately needs a win as his party limps towards the November mid-term elections.

As for CNN, multiple scandals have plagued them, their ratings have tanked, and an increasing amount of viewers no longer trust their reporting.

Throwing them a less-authoritarian bone is the very least the damaged network can do.
