Former President Donald Trump was splashed across leftist media headlines when he proclaimed that the “Unselect Committee of political hacks, liars, and traitors” who are investigating the Jan. 6 protest were engaging in a bipartisan effort to “alter the Electoral College Act.”

He said in a statement released Tuesday that it was proof that then-Vice President Mike Pence had the authority to overturn the results of the election if he had chosen to do so and called for both Pence and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to be investigated.

“So pathetic to watch the Unselect Committee of political hacks, liars, and traitors work so feverishly to alter the Electoral College Act so that a Vice President cannot ensure the honest results of the election, when just one year ago they said that ‘the Vice President has absolutely no right to ensure the true outcome or results of an election.’ In other words, they lied, and the Vice President did have this right or, more pointedly, could have sent the votes back to various legislators for reassessment after so much fraud and irregularities were found,” Trump stated.

“If it were sent back to the legislators, or if Nancy Pelosi, who is in charge of Capitol security, had taken my recommendation and substantially increased security, there would have been no ‘January 6’ as we know it! Therefore, the Unselect Committee should be investigating why Nancy Pelosi did such a poor job of overseeing security and why Mike Pence did not send back the votes for recertification or approval, in that it has now been shown that he clearly had the right to do so!” the former president asserted.

“If the Vice President (Mike Pence) had ‘absolutely no right’ to change the Presidential election results in the Senate, despite fraud and many other irregularities, how come the Democrats and RINO Republicans, like Wacky Susan Collins, are desperately trying to pass legislation that will not allow the Vice President to change the results of the election?” Trump also asked in a separate statement.

“Actually, what they are saying, is that Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome, and they now want to take that right away. Unfortunately, he didn’t exercise that power, he could have overturned the Election!” he pointed out.

The Electoral Count Act of 1887 was cited in memos drafted by Trump advisers after he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden. They claimed that Pence could reject certified slates of electors from states that voted for Biden and then either recognize “alternate slates” of electors from those states or just refuse to include those states in the overall Electoral College count, thereby giving Trump the majority. Pence refused to do so, citing constitutional grounds for his stance.

A bipartisan group of more than a dozen senators recently met to consider and discuss possible reforms to the 1887 law on Electoral College results.

That group included Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. They voiced support for the reformation of the law to “safeguard further elections.” This comes after Democrats failed to federalize elections.

The House Administration Committee issued a 31-page report on the issue on January 14, according to Newsweek. It recommended that the vice president no longer preside over the process of certifying the votes and the Senate president pro temp fulfill that role. That just happens to currently be Democrat Patrick Leahy. The report also recommended clarifying that “the presiding officer does not have substantive discretion over counting votes.”

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) declared that Trump’s statements were evidence that he would “do this all again if given the chance,” referring to his purported effort to reverse President Joe Biden’s victory. Naturally, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), another Never Trumper and RINO, chimed in, stating that GOP lawmakers must “pick a side… Trump or the Constitution.”

“There is no middle ground on defending our nation anymore,” Kinzinger grandstanded.
