“Like far too many of us in St. Louis, experiencing gun violence is all too familiar. Thankfully no one was harmed. But any act of gun violence shakes your soul,” she said.

“No one should have to fear for their safety here in St. Louis and that is exactly why our movement is working every day to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep every neighborhood safe,” Bush continued.

Additional evidence from the scene indicates that multiple vehicles in the area had been tampered with, specifically the door handles.

As Bush mentioned, St. Louis is no stranger to violence.

In October 2021, Mayor Tishaura Jones was interrupted mid-sentence by the sound of gunshots during a joint press conference with Kansas City, Missouri’s Mayor Quinton Lucas where they were ironically discussing violence.

She even admitted that it’s such a common occurrence that she and her son “go to bed to the lullaby of gunshots in the distance.”

“Well, as I’ve always said my son and I go to bed to the lullaby of gunshots in the distance more nights than we like to admit to,” she said. “So, unfortunately, that’s not something that’s uncommon.  And we talked about the proliferation of guns, how everyone has access to a gun, and the state legislature literally ties the hands of local mayors in enacting common-sense gun safety laws.”

Lucas also discussed how he feels about the random violence that occurred during the presser.

“This is the sort of thing that happens in Kansas City, in Columbia, in Springfield, in too many American cities. Part of why I’m in St. Louis today,” she said,  “and what I have been so heartened by is how hard this community is working to do better for our babies.”
