MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart gave Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) a dose of truth on Sunday: “The American people seem to be slowly but surely thinking, ‘Hey, maybe the Republicans should be given a shot, given the gavel back in the House.”
The congressman appeared on “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart” to discuss the Democrat Party agenda as President Joe Biden begins his second year in the White House.
Although Clyburn continued to insist that the GOP is basically a Trump cult, Capehart pointed out the declining approval numbers, specifically noting the latest NBC poll, which had the president’s approval in the low 40’s, with 72 percent of Americans indicating that the country is “moving in the wrong direction.”
Clyburn countered that it simply had to do with messaging, telling Capehart, “We keep talking about what the Democrats are not doing.”
He pressed on, admitting, “No. The glass is not full. It is only half-full. So let’s see what we can do by focusing on that part of the glass that is half-full, rather than keep concentrating on that half-empty part. Look at what we’ve done with the Rescue Act, look at what we’ve done with the infrastructure bill, and stop talking about the fact that we have not done Build Back Better. No, we haven’t, but we will.”
His words echoed those of Democratic strategist James Carville who said last week that Democrats should “quit being a whiny party” and should, instead, focus on so-called accomplishments.
Clyburn took to Twitter to clarify his remarks:
As I said on @TheSundayShow, we’re only 25% into the Biden-Harris administration. We still have 75% to go and I would hope Americans can look at the good @POTUS has accomplished, from the Infrastructure Law to the expanded Child Tax Credit, as a sign of the good to come. pic.twitter.com/0bCQwXHMbw

Clyburn was forced to defend the president and his party after NBC News reported on the latest poll in a blistering story on Sunday.
According to poll results, Americans are pretty evenly-divided over their choice of political party to guide them in Congress after the midterms, with 47 percent favoring Democrats and 46 percent favoring Republicans.
Voter enthusiasm is with the Republicans, however, with 61 percent saying they register their interest in the midterms at “9 or 10” on a 10-point scale versus just 47 percent of Democrats.
Clyburn probably hit the nail on the head with his assertion that messaging is a big part of the issue for voters. NBC News reported that the poll found that when Americans were asked to “describe where they believe America is today, the top answers were ‘downhill,’ ‘divisive,’ ‘negative,’ ‘struggling,’ ‘lost’ and ‘bad.'”
While Clyburn has a strong following on Twitter, not everyone shared the rosy outlook:
At some point we have to point the blame directly at Jim Clyburn for pushing Biden so hard in the deep south. Clyburn campaigned and voted for status quo, knowing Biden wouldnt accomplish anything. Clyburn is one of the most corrupt politicians in DC and why he doesnt want change

BBB is too big, too amorphous, too vulnerable to graft and theft. Break it up! BBB is not single mission like SS and Medicare and not operated by the government. It is a cash handout.

Biden ended up being just another liar. When Clyburn said the other day that Biden’s campaign promises were suggestions.. I thought wtf? It was the last straw for me. Here he goes with more BS
