A liberal political action committed dedicated to supporting female Democrat candidates who support access to abortion is pulling their backing from Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D – Arizona, because she won’t fall in line with the rest of the Dems.

Sinema’s inability to conform to the radical wing of her party has cost her the support of Emily’s List. Because she won’t move to abolish the filibuster so the majority party can ram through so-called voter rights legislation, Sinema may be losing a lot of the allies who helped her attain elected office in the first place. In fact, Emily’s List president Laphonza Butler warned that the senator might “find herself standing alone in the next election” if she didn’t feel like falling in lockstep with her peers.

“Understanding that access to the ballot box and confidence in election results are critical to our work and our country, we have joined with many others to impress upon Sen. Sinema the importance of the pending voting rights legislation in the Senate,” read a statement from the PAC’s president. “So far those concerns have not been addressed.”

Reportedly, Emily’s List hasn’t “endorsed or contributed to Sen. Sinema since her election in 2018” and it doesn’t look like that is going to change any time soon. The PAC claims that Sinema decided to “reject the voices of allies, partners and constituents who believe the importance of voting rights outweighs that of an arcane process.”

It is at that point that Butler threw down the gauntlet.

“So, we want to make it clear: if Sen. Sinema can not support a path forward for the passage of this legislation, we believe she undermines the foundations of our democracy, her own path to victory and also the mission of EMILY’s List, and we will be unable to endorse her moving forward,” the statement continued.

Apparently, their standards for support have evolved beyond being a Democrat, a woman, and pro-choice. Emily’s List now demands that you are willing to fundamentally alter the rules of the Senate in order to get your stalled agenda passed if you are to receive their time and attention.

“We are at an inflection point in the fight for voting rights and reproductive freedom, and Democrats must stand together to protect those critical rights. Emily’s List is proud to stand with Democratic pro-choice women doing that work, today and every day,” the statement concluded.
