House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not only holding out hope that Senator Joe Manchin will reverse course and support President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda, she’s also making the crazed claim that Republican election integrity laws are a continuation of the Jan. 6 riot.
Pelosi is voicing optimism that there is a deal to be had with Manchin on Biden’s monstrously expensive social spending bill that embodies a lengthy Democrat wishlist despite the fact that he has repeatedly said he would not support it.
Manchin is a thorn in the side of the left and single-handedly managed to stop the passage of the pork-laden $1.75 trillion bill. The Senate is evenly divided, requiring the support of all Democratic senators to move the legislation forward.
“I do think there’s an agreement to be reached,” she said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday. “It’s so important for our country.”
“Whether we’re talking about the need for childcare… home healthcare, all of those things,” she asserted. “In addition to that, we see weather, and that weather is telling us that we must do what is in the bill to address the climate crisis which is causing so many unusual natural disasters.”
It’s widely rumored that Manchin is still open to supporting the bill given the right circumstances. According to Axios, Manchin is willing to discuss the package’s provisions on climate change and child care measures.
However, Manchin’s $1.8 trillion spending offer he proposed to the White House in late 2021 appears to be off the table after negotiations broke down between the Democratic lawmaker from West Virginia and the White House, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.
Manchin told reporters that he is no longer involved in discussions with the White House and has signaled privately that he is not interested in approving Biden’s Build Back Better Package.
And while Pelosi is holding out the thinnest of hopes that Manchin will rejoin the progressive pack, she is pivoting to voting rights; it is the Democrats’ collective effort to federalize elections giving full control to the government.
“There’s nothing more important for us to do than protect our Constitution and our democracy,” she declared on “Face the Nation,” putting forth the latest Democratic talking point. “What the Republicans are doing across the country is really a legislative continuation of what they did on January 6, which is to undermine our democracy, to undermine the integrity of our elections, to undermine the voting power, which is the essence of a democracy.”

“We have to do that bill,” she added. “There is no more important bill that enables us to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
“They are not only suppressing the vote, suppressing the vote, they are nullifying elections, saying it doesn’t matter who gets more votes, it matters who the three we appoint to analyze that, what they decide,” Pelosi falsely claimed. “We cannot let that happen.”
“This is a very major threat on our democracy,” she posited on Sunday. “This legislation is the most important, and we have to keep working in order to get the job done because it is vital as any legislation we could ever pass.”
Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) also said on “Fox News Sunday” that aligning voting rights legislation with the Jan. 6 riot is appropriate because elected officials swore an oath to protect the U.S. Constitution against any “domestic terrorists among us.”
“That oath says, against all enemies foreign and domestic, a recognition of the fact that there will be times in our development when we have to deal with the enemy from within,” he remarked. “That is the recognition that there will be times or could be when we will have domestic terrorists among us.”
