With it becoming increasingly evident that President Joe Biden has failed miserably on his campaign promises to defeat COVID, the renewed wave of closures, cancellations and restrictions due to the panic over the Omicron variant is rapidly becoming a political problem that could be his undoing and six former advisers are now calling for a major shift in strategy.

In a series of papers published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, the health experts who worked with the incoming administration during the transition period are imploring Biden to acknowledge that the virus is “here to stay” and to accept what they describe as the “new normal” where COVID will be recognized as “but one of several circulating respiratory viruses that include influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and more.”

The papers are authored by Ezekiel Emanuel, Michael Osterholm, Rick Bright, David Michaels, Luciana Borio and Celine Gounder and could serve as a guideline for an administration that is facing growing criticism over the Omicron explosion that it was ill-prepared to handle and is floundering to meet demands for half a billion home test kits that were also promised by Biden.

According to one paper by Emanuel, Osterholm and Gounder: “As the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 demonstrates, COVID-19 is here to stay. In January 2021, President Biden issued the ‘National Strategy for the COVID-19 Response and Pandemic Preparedness.’ As the US moves from crisis to control, this national strategy needs to be updated.”

“Policy makers need to specify the goals and strategies for the ‘new normal’ of life with COVID-19 and communicate them clearly to the public,” they wrote.

The doctors also wrote that the strategy of “zero COVID” is unrealistic and that “COVID-19 must now be considered among the risks posed by all respiratory viral illnesses combined.”

However, some of the recommendations should alarm Americans who have seen an unprecedented assault on their civil liberties by authoritarian politicians and bureaucrats.

For example, Michaels, Emanuel and Bright suggest that a system that sounds like a national vaccine database be developed.

“The US needs to establish a real-time, opt-out digital surveillance system to monitor all vaccinated individuals for the frequency and severity of adverse effects, postvaccination infections, and waning immunity,” they advised.

It is now clear that Biden has no real plan to vanquish the virus outside of his ongoing bullying of the unvaccinated and an employer mandate that may or may not survive legal challenges, both of which are deeply unpopular with an electorate that is growing tired of the endless state of emergency and the economic fallout of shuttered businesses and supply chain disruptions.

Despite Biden’s tough talk, cases are skyrocketing, Democrat governors are once again on the brink of locking down their states and the NFL is getting nervous about holding the Super Bowl in Los Angeles and eyeing a move of the league’s premier event to Texas.

The former advisers also called for the CDC to “collect and disseminate accurate real-time, population-based incidence data on COVID-19 and all viral respiratory illnesses. The US should not be reliant on extrapolating cases and outcomes from data collected from a few, underrepresentative sites. The country needs a comprehensive testing and reporting system for all viral respiratory illnesses.”

Twitter users weighed in on the idea Biden should run up a white flag on the virus.

Like Biden’s top medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has faced criticism for mixed messaging and confusing guidelines, most recently being blasted by the American Medical Association over the agency’s cutting of the length of quarantine time to 5 days.

In a blistering press release that rips the agency, AMA President Gerald Harmon states that the “CDC quarantine and isolation guidance is confusing, counterproductive.”

‘Nearly two years into this pandemic, with Omicron cases surging across the country, the American people should be able to count on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for timely, accurate, clear guidance to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their communities,’ he wrote.

Asked by a reporter on Thursday about the papers by the experts and whether Biden’s current team has advised him that it’s time to give up the ghost on eradicating COVID, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said, “the President’s goal is to defeat the virus.”

Biden’s former advisers have offered him a roadmap out of COVID hell, whether he will be honest with the American people that he has utterly failed in his promises remains to be seen.
