Fox News aggressively defends Jesse Watters over ‘kill shot’ remark: ‘twisted completely out of context’

Fox News came out swinging on Tuesday in defense of “The Five” co-host Jesse Watters after Dr. Fauci called for his immediate termination for metaphorically using the words “kill shot” at a Turning Point USA conference, asserting his words were “twisted completely out of context.”

“Based on watching the full clip and reading the entire transcript, it’s more than clear that Jesse Watters was using a metaphor for asking hard-hitting questions to Dr. Fauci about gain-of-function research and his words have been twisted completely out of context,” Fox News bluntly contended in a widely released statement.

Leftist anger exploded following an interview between Fauci and CNN’s “New Day” co-anchor John Berman. Berman selectively recounted Watters’ words to Fauci who then became incensed and called for Watters to be fired “on the spot.” The clip passed around on social media was not the complete speech by Watters and was deliberately taken out of context by leftists.

“The only thing that I had ever done throughout these two years is to encourage people to practice good public health practices, to get vaccinated, to be careful in public settings, to wear a mask. And for that, you have some guy out there saying that people should be giving me a kill shot, to ambush me? I mean, what kind of craziness is there in society these days?” Fauci declared with faux outrage.

“That’s awful that he said that,” he commented. “And he’s going to go very likely unaccountable. I mean, whatever network he’s on is not going to do anything for him. I mean, that’s crazy. The guy should be fired on the spot!”

Watters’ words tell a different story when viewed in their entirety.

The Fox News host was instructing AmericaFest attendees how to approach leftist figures such as Fauci and get them on the record so it could be publicized. He referenced the template used by Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe who is renowned for exposing leftists and their secrets.

“I’m sick and tired of conservatives always playing defense, it’s time for us to go on offense,” Watters stated during the event. “I’m going to deputize all you guys to be little James O’Keefes … Let’s just say Fauci comes to town … You’ve got to ambush a guy like Fauci.”

Watters then gave instructions on how to approach Fauci. He told them to be respectful and identify themselves, etc. His words colorfully described the interview process but they were never used to advocate violence. Leftists disingenuously twisted his words to make them appear to be incitement when they clearly weren’t, according to Fox News.

“Now you’re going for the kill shot. The kill shot with an ambush is deadly because he doesn’t see it coming,” Watters remarked concerning interviewing Fauci.

“This is when you say, ‘Dr. Fauci, you funded risky research at a sloppy Chinese lab. The same lab that sprung this pandemic on the world. You know why people don’t trust you, don’t you?’ Boom, he is dead! He is dead! He’s done. You do that for 30 seconds, that’s all you need. Thirty seconds,” Watters advised the audience.

“Now, you get that footage to us. You get it to Fox, you get it to Human Events, you get it to Breitbart, you get it to the Daily Caller, you get it to the Turning Point pipeline. Imagine Tucker Carlson teases that in the ‘A’ block… ‘Coming up, brave college student confronts Lord Fauci at dinner. Exclusive footage… right back.’ Get us that! That’s what we want. That changes the whole conversation of the country. I’ve authorized it. Just make sure it’s legal,” he admonished.
