Liberal media shamelessly runs cover for Biden by spinning inflation, supply chain crisis

One could argue that, much like the institutional left, the liberal media is engaged in playing the long game, and with the 2022 midterm elections less than a year away and the 2024 presidential campaign season not far off from there, they understand that their fate is tied in large part to how President Joe Biden is perceived by the nation.

But then, one could also argue with equal veracity that Biden is the media’s guy, having ridden that horse to a successful conclusion in the 2020 election and they have a vested interest in his success. Unfortunately for them, Biden’s approval ratings have cratered following the Afghanistan debacle, with the president surrendering to the Taliban, leaving hundreds of American citizens behind and more than $85 billion worth of U.S. military equipment. The media may have moved on, but the American people still recall and there’s also the reality that nearly 2 million illegal immigrants have poured into America since Biden has been in office.

But the overriding issue impacting American families today is inflation, punctuated by soaring gas prices that folks are feeling in their wallets — the American Farm Bureau Federation noted that the cost of the classic Thanksgiving dinner of turkey and sides is up 14 percent this year, resulting in an all-time high of $53.31 for a family of ten. And it’s here that the liberal media is shamelessly running cover for the president by either downplaying inflation or trying to spin it as a good thing, Fox News reported.

One of the more egregious examples cited involved MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle downplaying the rising inflation rate by claiming that Americans “on average” can afford the higher prices.

“The dirty little secret here, Willie, while nobody likes to pay more, on average, we have the money to do so,” she said in an interview with “Sunday Today” host Willie Geist earlier this month. “Household savings hit a record high over the pandemic, we didn’t really have anywhere to go out and spend.”

Ruhle also said earlier this month that Democrats have a “great economic story to tell.”

“Yes, this inflation number is not a good one. But they’ve got a great economic story to tell, right?” she opined.

“Five million jobs created, 200 million people vaccinated — those vaccine numbers tie directly to the economy. You couldn’t open the economy without getting America healthy again. We are seeing economic recovery. What the Biden administration isn’t doing is selling that, and they can,” she said.

There was also a far-reaching offering from New York Times writer Sarah Jeong that was quickly batted down online:

MSNBC’s resident racist Joy Reid did her part to carry the Biden administration’s water, by dismissing the economic hardships Americans are facing as a Republican talking point and chalking inflation up to folks spending more.

“So Republicans want you to believe the economy isn’t doing well, that it’s terrible. Unemployment is at the lowest point since the pandemic began,” she boasted. “Prices are higher, which is never good, but Americans are spending a record amount of money that was pent up during the pandemic, which economics 101 will tell you drives prices up, aka inflation.”

Reid insisted that the economy “isn’t bad,” saying that “people are mad because everything is late and things cost a little more.”

Fox News reported while the pandemic did have an impact on the supply chain, so did Biden’s stimulus packages, his unemployment insurance program that kept Americans out of the workforce, and a slew of other policies.

On that note, CNN shrill Brian Stelter recently downplayed the supply chain crisis by suggesting there’s an “amazing, overflowing abundance” of grocery items still available — supported by a photograph of refrigerators full of domestically produced milk and dairy products.

Yahoo Finance senior columnist Rick Newman was included in the Fox News article suggesting that empty shelves may be a “gift.”

“Save money, time and aggravation by exploiting the pandemic shortages to slash your shopping burden,” he wrote, while advocating for “partial Christmas” for now on.

“Collusion is illegal in business—but not in parenting,” Newman said. “So coax as many of your fellow parents into the scheme as you can. It’s a solid pitch: Save money, time and aggravation by exploiting the pandemic shortages to slash your shopping burden. Maybe you’ll actually enjoy the holidays for once. Use the money you save to buy something nice for yourself. If you’re nervous, keep some cash on hand for day-after clearance sales.”
