Former Trump political strategist Steve Bannon declared, “We’re taking down the Biden regime,” as he publicly surrendered to federal authorities Monday on contempt charges for defying a subpoena over documents and testimony pertaining to the Jan. 6 protest.
“We’re taking down the Biden regime,” he proclaimed. “I want you guys to stay focused, stay on message. Remember, signal, not noise. This is all noise, that’s signal.”
Seen walking into the building with his lawyer, David Schoen, who represented Trump in his second Senate trial, Bannon cautioned the aggressive reporters trying to get at him outside the FBI office, “Don’t get hurt.”
Bannon is expected to appear in court Monday on two charges of contempt over his refusal to appear for a deposition before the House Select Committee on the Capitol Hill riot and for refusing to produce related documents. Each count could get him up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $100,000.
His surrender was livestreamed for his podcast “War Room” on Gettr. Bannon did not take questions and only spoke briefly.
Attorney General Merrick Garland has upped the political stakes by going after Bannon. It’s a serious escalation by the Democrats to persecute and prosecute Trump’s top aides and anyone on the right they can snag over Jan. 6.
“Since my first day in office, I have promised Justice Department employees that together we would show the American people by word and deed that the department adheres to the rule of law, follows the facts and the law and pursues equal justice under the law,” Garland stated after the department charged Bannon on Friday.
He added the “charges reflect the department’s steadfast commitment to these principles.”
House Select Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) are now focusing on nailing former Trump chief of staff Mike Meadows, who has also defied their subpoena and failed to show up for a deposition Friday.

“Steve Bannon’s indictment should send a clear message to anyone who thinks they can ignore the Select Committee or try to stonewall our investigation: no one is above the law. We will not hesitate to use the tools at our disposal to get the information we need,” the lawmakers threatened in a statement.
“While we’re determined to get all the information we’re seeking, Mr. Meadows, Mr. Bannon, and others who go down this path won’t prevail in stopping the Select Committee’s effort getting answers for the American people about January 6th…” the committee members asserted.
Criminal contempt prosecutions are almost unheard of but in the left’s hunt to take down conservatives they can tentatively connect with the Jan. 6 riot, they are going to extremes to show they are in control. Litigation over the charges could potentially take months or years.
Bannon’s apparent crime is being in touch with Trump days before the protest took place on Jan. 6. His attorneys informed the committee in a letter dated Oct. 7 that the former president had instructed him not to cooperate because he intends to fight disclosure under executive privilege.
Many see the efforts to persecute Bannon as an attempt to criminalize opinions on the right.
“As we told you, the Biden Justice Department is transforming before our eyes into an armed political instrument whose main job appears to be punishing critics of the Democratic Party. Here’s the latest example: They have just indicted former Trump adviser Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress. Well, if that sounds like an unusual charge, it definitely is. The DOJ hasn’t charged anyone with criminal contempt of Congress in nearly 40 years,” Fox News host Tucker Carlson noted.
“The DOJ did not charge Eric Holder after he was held in contempt, for example. The DOJ didn’t charge Jim Clapper or John Brennan when they lied to Congress. That’s not speculation. They lied. They were caught. But then Joe Biden wasn’t president at the time. As we said, the DOJ is now the enforcement arm of the Democratic Party, punishing anyone who doesn’t comply with the demands of Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney’s January 6th commission,” he added.
Support is strong for Bannon:
Steve Bannon is a true Patriot!🇺🇸
He’s going to show everyone how it’s done.
God bless him!

With Steve Bannon indicted on contempt of Congress counts Friday (a similar indictment of @MarkMeadows, I suspect, is forthcoming), now is an ideal time to brush up on Obama's #TeaParty targeting scandal and Lois Lerner, who was also found in contempt–and then never prosecuted.

Nancy Pelosi should be in Federal custody right now – not Steve Bannon.

After 40 years someone is indicted for contempt of Congress.
No its not Eric Holder, nor the many Democrats who had no legal basis for contempt.
It’s Steve Bannon who is constrained from complying by the TRO from the 5th Circuit.
Biden is demented.
What about Garland?

Steve Bannon, a man who served our nation honorably in the Navy, before rising to Strategist to the President, is being persecuted for his MAGA-influence.
Nothing else.
With a crime no one has been targeted with since 1983. #ItsAboutYou pic.twitter.com/tV4UyZ8zzl

DISGUSTING: Being told that Steve Bannon is being kept in handcuffs by the @USMarshalsHQ while he awaits his pretrial conference on a MISDEMEANOR.
This is political persecution and an absolute miscarriage of justice.
Hope @USMarshalsHQ correct this injustice immediately.
