Conservative pundit Candace Owens stirred up a liberal hornet’s nest after she claimed in a since-deleted tweet that Alec Baldwin’s accidental shooting and killing of his cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was “poetic justice.”
“Alec Baldwin spent 4 years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers,” Owens tweeted on Oct. 22. “What has happened to Alec would be an example of poetic justice if it weren’t for the actual innocent people that were murdered by him. Pray for their families. So sad.”
She received a huge backlash for the comment on social media. Later she tweeted, “Will correct that last tweet to say Alec Baldwin ‘killed’ someone- not murdered someone, as murder carries a different legal definition.”
“Literally not one single thing that Alec Baldwin has said about Donald Trump and his supporters is going to age well,” she remarked.

Outraged leftists excoriated Owens for her tweets.
A number of people bristled at politics being brought into the discussion at all. However, Baldwin is a lifelong Democrat who is very vocal about his politics and it is unsurprising that politics would become part of the discussion concerning the tragedy.
Not only did Baldwin gleefully portray Trump as a moronic, dishonest, and corrupt politician on Saturday Night Live, he has previously referred to both the former president and his supporters as a “gallery of monsters.”
The actor also infamously went on a rant accusing Trump of causing a “moral collapse of the US” and then compared him to Adolf Hitler.
Baldwin wrote following the 2020 election, “Bury Trump in a Nazi graveyard and put a swastika on his grave. The majority of Americans made the right choice. Trump is a maniac.”
Trump was understandably offended by Baldwin’s vicious SNL skits.
“Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC!” Trump said in 2019. “Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!”
“American democracy has always been a struggle between the misaligned protections of specific freedoms and a raging, at times intoxicating, 12 cylinder economy. It demanded vigilant/consistent regulation, compassion for the disenfranchised and the periodic display of a necessary sacrifice that allowed for the long term health of our society at the expense of short-term whims,” Baldwin tweeted in 2020.
“The desecration of those ideals and the near moral collapse of this country falls squarely in the lap of Trump’s supporters… as opposed to Trump himself, who is merely what psychology labels the ‘objective negative function,’” he asserted.
“Like fire, floods and earthquakes, it destroys, and only destroys, by its very nature. Without prejudice. It is Trump voters, particularly those who would re-elect him who bear the blame. For the undeniable and colossal destruction of everything that matters to us as Americans that cannot be merely monetized,” Baldwin nastily concluded.

After the accidental shooting, Baldwin commented on Twitter, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”
“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family,” he stated. “My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Reports came in after the tragic shooting that Baldwin was “hysterical and absolutely inconsolable for hours” and is now looking “to take some time to himself and re-center himself.”
